    I hope the ejector seat was a good one, that huge vertical stabiliser could focus your attention during a bail-out!

    Any interesting observation Terry, though the Sea Dart was able to scoot pretty good, it suffered from a number of issues, including not being an "area rule" design, which was more a result of old school designers, trying to take their WWII experience into a realm they didn't fully understand, which is what likely killed it's test pilot, after which the program was shut down. These and other lessons learned where incorporated into the F-102 a couple of years later.

    Reminds me a bit of the English Electric Lightning that served with the RAF. A monstrously high-powered plane, it didn't seem to make even a nod in the direction of the area rule but apparently just muscled its way through the sound barrier and beyond. That too had a large vertical stabilizer probably to maintain directional control approaching mach 2. An awesome achievement of the "if it goes fast let's put a bigger engine in" school of design by the look of it. Presumably the ejector seats on planes with such VS designs are angled . . .
