We used this one for about a month or 6 weeks of shooting, but the set dressers, studio artists and super rigger girls spent weeks putting it together for us first after it was launched in Freeport, Bahamas.
Interior was built on the gun deck, below that on the main deck was steel and industrial.
Working on her was exhausting. All surfaces were covered with epoxy and sand, so if you bumped into a corner your skin came off. The sails were a foot thick with vinyl 'seaweed' and nearly impossible to handle. No rudder and a flat bottom meant we were always towed.
All the cannons fired, and there was a revolving 3 barrel one in the bow that was cool (it's a fantasy movie).
One afternoon Production sent us far downwind to get an important shot with the setting sun in the right place. Then it got dark. Then the wind came up strong. Then the towboat got the towline in its starboard wheel. Then the wind blew harder. Then as we blew uncontrollably sideways across the reef (at high tide) a breaker came in the main deck on the open, off-camera side to get acquainted, and took me, a couple of big generators and half a dozen porta-potties all crashing down to the lee side, where we sloshed about a bit when she rolled deep. Then the beach got closer and we were in 6 feet of water and the surf was breaking. Then 5 big RIBs came out to save us, average 250 hp each, all of then pushing against the lee side with their props almost on the beach. That one was close.
