Bnii you need to fly each first ,..the aronca and the kitfox,.. both a joy to fly,.. if you take the "bad" characteristics of each,..the kitfox comes out with a better score,..and it's side by side instead of tandem,( that's as close to unbiased as I can get )..cant beat the history of the champ, nostalgic aviation at it's finest

FYI:
Michigan Hovercraft Racing - Brighton 09/17/11
Bishop Lake Races, Brighton MI - Hoverclub of America

They make a lot of noise and can be fun to watch.

We had one sink last year, racing craft are exempt from buoyancy regulations, it was pulled out of the water and raced again later that day.

Fox news is reported to be covering the event. Last year a cable TV build show tried an entry, they filmed it which was kind of fun.

The kid standing on the craft is 9 years old and weighs 60 lbs, he had a first great day of racing.

Referred to as "bilge keel" or sometimes in UK "rolling chock". Slows down the rolling at sea. This boat will probably get a new bow with bulbous extension, sponsoned for greater width in the stern, and maybe lengthened. Fairly common job around here.

Correct me if I'm mistaken,
but I believe a dagger-board refers to a board that is slotted in (and possibly out) of a dagger-trunk/slot of some kind? kinda makes sense.
as aposed to say a kick-up keel or centerboard.

A dagger-keel?
is there such a beast?
thanks

I'm no expert on the terms, good money says I've muddled it up somehow.

Dagger board (vertically sliding) is a form of keel in its sailing function, language is flexible and needs to adapt, and I don't have a problem with dagger keel, it's actually a better description than dagger board maybe.

The Advantages of Twin Keels
http://www.brayyachtdesign.bc.ca/article_twinkeels.html

Quote:
A word about the history of the design and development of bilge keelers. In the 1920s Lord Riverdale built the 25 foot Blue Bird, the first twin keel yacht. In the 1930s a larger Blue Bird of Thorne was started and measured 48 feet overall. Both these Blue Birds had twin rudders as well as twin keels and continue to sail today. Lord Riverdale had built and towed models in each case before building and sailing each yacht. His cruising experiences with these boats then brought to light new areas of development. Between 1930-1961 a series of twin keel yachts were built with success by various architects and clients based on Lord Riverdale's work. Yachts of this type became available in many countries including France, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Surprisingly little work was being done in the U.S.

Thanks BATAAN,
I just knew, you knew...

there's a lot to be said for the terminology when
one is trying to describe something.

Kach22i,
and now we know you've muddled in them
