Question

I posted a number of On... in the WB Forums.
They were meant to stimulate discussion on and only for the subject mentioned. Usually it worked out OK but sometimes as chatter in a saloon will, the thrust drifted off target.
I would be willing to post a few in the appropriate Forums here if it would be of help and IF they stay on subject.

Being the crusty old faht that I am let me say bluntly.

***If ya gonna go off topic then go start your own damn thread, folla?***

Any opinions either on the idea or my attitude are welcome.

Hey Dave, question for you, here. Are you working on anything to date, or have anything that gets you out on the water? Honest question, since I don't recall ever hearing you discuss this. Just a curious question. Tell us about your boat, please, pertty pleasssses. Spoken with a smile and awaiting with great expectations.

I must tell you, I SINNED big time. I flamed today. It felt good, though. My knee was hurting. Please forgive me. Opps, off topic.

Nah, building a bookcase shelving system for this tenament I live in and spending time with a shipwright friend down at the San Diego Maritime Museum. Sailing waters are not great down here and I am not a big fan of putt-putts.

I hope to get out on Bergman's Royaliste come Thanksgiving Week when we trek up to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Looks like this thread is already off subject. Also, this is a marine forum. Some chit chat is OK, but you guys sound like a Yahoo chat room for singles. What is the subject of your exchanges anyway?

Sounds like he is asking for suggestions.

Are we restricted to one liners, here? GEEWIZZ, Many times topics will have some legs, that evolved from topics, associated with the actual topics. Have a nice day.

Didn't mean to offend, Gonzo. Just a few grizzled ol' vets of the boatbuilding wars havin' a jawin' session. Sorta thought that's what an "Open Forum" was for - bein' friendly and socializin'. Informal and friendly-like, no sex, politics, or religion. Important stuff on topic up above, friendly social chat over here in the quiet corner of the boat shop by the stove and moanin' chair.

Are we to assume that you don't want us experienced old fellers hangin' about in your shop? We're a friendly bunch 'n' would welcome your company too, but if'n ya think that we might disturb the important work goin' on 'round here we can mosey along. After all you wuz here first an' we don't want to get ya all riled up over nuthin'.

What do you say? Is it shut up and move along, or do ya wanna sit down and tell us a bit about yourself so's we can become better friends? I see that you do a bit of both design and construction - what style of boats and what materials do you work in?

Oops - off topic again, ain't I?

Heck...I'm happy to have any discussion of any kind on this quiet site....as long as it's from boatbuilders.

You'll have to excuse Gonzo for his (apparent) hard line - those of us who have been around this forum for a while are feeling a little touchy at the moment. Following the "Apache" and "More of us soon" threads, I think you guys'll be the 1st to agree that for a while things looked like changing very much for the worse around here.
For my part at least, I think it's terrific that a few more knowledgeable people are prepared to share their thoughts on all things boaty and I hope you'll stick around.... just help us get rid of some of those that followed....

Now, back to the topic .... Dave, call me stupid, but what did you mean by...

He means for example: On Battens or On Mentors & Mentoring

And I agree 100% with Will - I'm very happy to see some new people, especially those with so much experience to share. I've read all your posts so far with great interest and I appreciate you joining our forums.

And I'll try to do a better job moderating to keep the way-off-topic threads from getting out of control in the future.

Since I'm here, Dave, I'll be so bold as to speak for you...

What Dave is referring to is a series of fine postings on various topics he did in another place, all with the common theme of "On <topic>", such as his recent addition to the BoatDesign/Wooden Boat Restoration thread entitled, "On Battens".

Dave's got good stuff to say - one o' them "been there..." types.

Re: the mud we tracked in from another place; sorry. We're trying to clean up after ourselves and are willing to help with the chores.

<edit> - Wow, youse guys are fast!
