| Propeller Selection I want to choose a propeller for a tug with the following particulars: Main engine power(single screw): 3300bhp RPM: 600 Gearing rate 1:2 which want to tug a 5000 tonne weight in 6 knot speed. and does not have kort nozzle. please inform me about the specifications of the best propeller which can satisfy my needs. i want to know the type, No. of the blades, and the diameter of the propeller. | Hello... Hello... See attached - if it works... You first need to determine your shaft diameter - bearing spacing if more than one in the log - and your available hull clearance - need 15 to 20 percent of wheel diameter so as to not cavitate at the top of the swing ... Here is a good site - an old friend even - see http://www.bertram31.com/proj/tips/shafts.htm ... That gets you started - as for material and section thicknesses for a tow application - talk to a good maker that have their own foundry and machine facilities - like http://www.osbornepropellers.com/Consulting.htm ... These guys have been casting and milling their own product since the 1930's... All pretty basic stuff - from this point it can get crazy... SH. |
