What that new saw?

It looks like a jig saw but the blade sticks out the front and sweeps left and right ( depending on how you hold it) rather than goes up and down like a jig. Ive seen a guy use it on the telly to make a nice neat hole in some plaster board.

I can't find it on the internet but then I don't know what they call it.

I would like one to cut neat, less dust holes in fibre glass for interior work.

I think they're called "oscillating" saws. The Cdn version is called Multi-Max.

The saw blade sweeps back and forth sideways - quite handy for certain apps and you can get sanding pads for it and it will get into corners nicely.

I want to modify a bathroom window on the boat. I don't want to grind it out or as you can imagine we will be in a snow storm of fibre glass dust, whos gonna wanna take a shower in there.

Fine controlled cutting and sanding sounds good.

Bolt a oscillating blade to a detail sander and you've got a home made, saw as you've described, without forking out lots of bucks.

This is a Dremel brand blade bolted to a Ryobi detail sander. These tools are called "Multi tool" by several brands. Harbor Freight sells two versions of this, one 40 and the other 60 bucks. Mine works as well and the blade cost $10 and I had the two #6 machine screws and lock nuts in house. It still works as a detail sander, which is a tool I rarely use anyway.

Yep- the oscillating tools like the Fein & clones all do as you ask with a cut blade: controlled cutting through GRP without throwing the dust all over.
My Fein has been a workhorse for many years but is the most $ of the bunch.

Actually the patent has run out on this particular novelty and modifying a tool with a different blade isn't copying, though it does employ some features seen in other tools. I have several dozen home made tools, some certanily taking desirable features from other things I've seen. It's a good thing the wings on aircraft patent has run out or there would be an awful lot of helpless passenger airliners.

But how do you know if it does the same thing maybe the travel is different.

A sander does not move that much , but a saw has to cut.

Maybe I could just fasten a blade onto my phone on vibrate.

Ive just looked at this being used on youtube --it seems very impressive and when it stops raining.......

Maybe Mohameds tool emporium may have one. Bosch of course,--only bosch, I cant kill a bosch, yes there maybe better but for me the price is right and the tool works fine unlike Black and Decker which should be banned from the market.

Makita in Thailand carries no warranty, yup Bosch for me.

If you do buy Bosch, make sure you get a metal cutting blade ,the ones for wood won't last. Some of the earlier Fein blades will fit ,but I was given a new set recently that won't ,check before you buy.
