Actually, I've just thought about it. I think I'm about 13 miles (20k) from a hospital myself. It's not something I'd considered before, but my wife might notice when she goes in to labour!

Our PM For our Aussie readers...but could be adapted for the US: Our local club got a new robotic bartender installed. A member came in for a drink and the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man replied, "150." So the robot proceeded to make conversation about Quantum physics, string theory, atomic chemistry, and so on. The member listened intently and thought, "This is really great." He decided to test the robot. He walked out of the bar, turned around, and came back in for another drink. Again, the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man said, "100." So the robot started talking about football, cricket, beer, and so on. Amazed, the man went out and came back in a third time. As before, the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man replied, "50." The robot then said, "So, you gonna vote for John Howard again?"

Our PM Actually this is the answer to the poser I raised on the 'Physical Brain Teaser' thread: How many did you count? 3? Wrong, there are 6! Read it again. It sems the brain cannot process "OF". Supposedly anyone who counts all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius. Three is normal, four is quite rare. ![]()

Damn it! I counted twice and got 3 each time... that's six in total.

| More accurate explanation, I think, (not mine, I read it somewhere ) is that we "say" words internally when we read, and so the brain processes "OF" as "OV". Most speed reading techniques are based on training the reader to eliminate this internal "saying" of words, since speech is much slower than absorbing visual input directly. Also, as proven here, it screws up your counting of F's. ![]()
