Actually, in this day and age I probably shouldn't even mention that I get along with dogs -- much less with children.

But I was telling the truth. Back when I was a meter reader, I consistently walked through dogs other folks were terrified of, and stopped to talk to them and scratch their ears on the way out. And toddlers who are normally scared to death of strangers will latch onto me like I'm their favorite teddy bear.

Unfortunately, the gals who own those dogs and mother those toddlers seem to be less impressed. Which doesn't surprise my wife. Although she claims to be fond of me herself, she's convinced no other woman in her right mind would put up with me.
