Here are some quotes from Leland Stanford. Sorry they aren't snappy sound bites, but he was a pretty wordy guy.

Stanford was one of the more famous (or infamous) 'robber baron' capitalists of the late 1800's, eighth governor of California, and founder of Stanford University. So it's interesting to note his opinion that capital and labor are not mortal enemies, but natural allies.

If anyone wants to go to war over this post, I suggest doing it either by PM's or by starting another thread; I don't want to derail this one.

From my earliest acquaintance with the science of political economy, it has been evident to my mind that capital was the product of labor, and that therefore, in its best analysis there could be no natural conflict between capital and labor.
