Old speedboat

Thanks PAR,your advice is much appreciated and very informative,it has certainly put me in the picture,and I can now form a plan of action.
Using boats in the UK is quite a headache,most lakes and rivers are "owned"so access is quite difficult,even then the speed limits are 4mph in most places.Although this is an island nation,most of the land is council run or private,so even getting into the sea can be quite expensive.I live in the north of England,but most navigable rivers are from the midlands down.
I will have to trailer the boat 80mls to put it in the sea in wales,sometimes the weather can change by the time you get there,so the day and effort is wasted.
You're probably wondering why I want a boat,I'm fascinated with them.I think with my dad being on destroyers as a chief petty officer in ww2 is the reason why.
Thanks once again for the info,I'll keep you posted on the progress with pics etc.[just need some decent weather]

I thought you might like to see how Florida, a land of lakes, rivers and coastline deals with water access. I hope you find this link of interest. I know GB and USA are entirely different systems, but we do share a lot in common. Perhaps GB is open to some new ideas in this regard.

access

Hi PAR,
your system seems much more public inclined than the uk's,here there can be numerous councils in the range of 100mls all with different rules and charges.Instead of having public access as important,they seem to encourage private enterprise,mainly because it fills their coffers I think.
The title of "rip off Britain"is quite apt I am afraid.
Unfortunately it has taken me till only the last few years to gain the wisdom
that I would have had a better shake for my hard work and effort in maybe America or Australia.My personal interests and inclinations are more suited to
these places.
I can gather from the info you sent that the governing bodies in the USA have the public's interest at the forefront,and intend to put the brakes on private enterprise to some degree,I cant see that happening here in a million years.But soldier on I will,and my boat will hit the waves come late spring.{May or June here}
Have a nice day
