| An off-topic pic... ... which has nothing to do with boats but with a deep sense of humanity and hope it has transmitted to me. And hopefully will do the same to you. Shot somewhere in Iraq, found in a gallery of Corriere della Sera (www.corriere.it) newspaper:  I want to believe that this soldier's compasionate and caring look is genuine and sincere, not just a pose for the photographer. Anyways, respect.  |

| He's a medic and it would be typical of those performing this job. He's got a thermometer and suture scissors in his pocket, plus the gloves are a dead give away. Observation is a wonderful thing. |

| Some of my kinfolk are serving in Iraq as I write this, and they are caring faithful people who are not into "photo op.s". I see no reason to believe this fellow is any different. What a jaded view of humanity we have acquired! |

| I think the only thing obvious about the image, is that some might conclude that a medic wouldn't be a soft touch, particularly with a child. Any photographer could follow a medic around and every third shot would be suitable for the cover of Mothering Magazine or Tenderness Quarterly. I'm not being cold hearted, I've served in combat too and repeatedly found humanity followed the medic corps. |
