"articles by Inside Climate News and the Los Angeles Times newspaper during the past two months alleging Exxon’s scientists discovered evidence that man-made emissions were damaging the climate as far back as 1977... "

I'm no lawyer, but I suspect under tort law, if New York fails to PROVE these allegations, while Exxon can't sue NY, Exxon COULD sue Inside Climate News and the Los Angeles Times for libel. They could NOT believably defend on "absence of malice", could they?

Result might be Inside Exxon News and the Los Angeles Exxon Times. :p

Or since they spend all that huge money on climate denial, why not just buy out their detractors?

    Newspapers Go for Big Bucks
Purchase price of major newspapers 2011-2014.

    San Diego Union-Tribune, 2011. Doug Manchester-$110 million.
Orange County Register, 2012. Aaron Kushner-$50 million to $60 million.
The Washington Post, 2013. Jeff Bezos-$250 million.
The Boston Globe (and sister newspaper), 2013. John Henry-$70 million.
    Minneapolis Star-Tribune, 2014. Glen Taylor-about $100 million.

Wait, in the graph IN posted, the total money, several millions, spent combating AGW propaganda wouldn't buy a single newspaper among those listed.

Matter of scale. Big numbers are only understandable in comparison with other big numbers.
Maybe they didn't actually spend very much, in comparison. How many trillions were spent on promoting AGW?
Large numbers confuse and scare some people, because they can't conceive of the scale involved.

Here is an interesting prediction. The NEXT message to beat us up with.
    "Sustainability"

    "
How? By “reorient[ing] our attitude toward nature and, thereby, toward ourselves” and by recognizing “religious institutions are in a special position to promote” sustainability. As I wrote elsewhere, if you think global warming’s bad, wait till you meet sustainability. Sustainability is the fundamentalism that will replace all other environmental causes. Global warming made itself vulnerable by exposing itself to verification. Sustainability is immune to testing. It is taken on faith.

As I wrote, “True Sustainability is a goal ever disappearing into the distance, one which can never be reached, but which must be pursued with ever increasing vigor.” The PAS document is suffused with sustainability; the word or its variants appears dozens of times. They say we are engaged in “unsustainable consumption,” that climate change will “seriously threaten global sustainability,” that we must “save as much of the sustainable fabric of the world as possible,” that we must celebrate “living together in comfort and sustainably,” that we must “develop a sustainable relationship with our planet.”

And what is the Pontifical Academy’s definition of sustainable? You guessed it. They never give one.

You'd hope everyone has a similar definition of "sustainable", if not, the argument will stall early on !

I can't judge the correctness of data and figures I did not personally collect. Meaning most of them.
I can judge veracity and integrity of those furnishing reports of facts and figures and data and predictions, by their actions.
When a group or individuals endorsed by a group, exaggerate, manipulate, lie, fabricate, adjust, doctor, obscure, hide, or otherwise act dishonest with information, then their information and opinions have less than zero value.
I'm inclined to not only reject their message, but to believe the exact opposite of what they say.

This is the case with the AGW crowd.
Even if they turned their coat and adopted the opposing view, they have zero credibility.
I wouldn't buy a used car from an AGW supporter.
They are all tarred with the same brush and can only blame themselves if no one trusts them.

So kind of you to be concerned for the LA Times, but you really needn't worry. They do investigative reporting for a living.

I'm inclined to think that you are going to find yourself increasingly isolated in your position. But we will take your suggestions under advisement.

The article behind Rasorinc's tongue-in-cheek spoof is worth a look.
