As I said they were bloody good fighters! But ****, anybody could hit a line of guys in red jackets - the brave buggers were they as stood there IN the red jackets (stupid sods! brave - yes! stupid - definately!) Mind you we sorted you in the end bit of the old hearts and minds stuff - I believe it's called 'concentration camps' for your women and children, yep the British Empire was a wonderful organisation!! As long as you were an officer in it!

Even as recently as '66 whilst I was on exchange with the pommy anti-aircraft lads near Changi (airport not calaboose) the OR's were treated like they were worse than ****. I just refused to play their stupid system calling the officers & NCO's by their Christian names, causing some consternation there.

I was also stunned how poorly they treated the "RAF Malaya" personnel & the Gurkha. Talk about third rate racism & sanctimonious superiority over the colonial citizens. The OR guys were naturally & honestly respectful of all ranks in the "colonial forces".

My new year resolution... to be sober and get some of my idea flying, get a rich girl and get married... the latter was a jest...

No really, I have a village to help in the rain forest with my salary only as a resource ( village name Mahxx Baxx ), building communication and water transportation problem... Cheerio...

That's Babootie - basically a Cape Malay mince curry dish. And the BBQ is a braaivleis or braai for short (pronounced bry, rhymes with fry.) It is basically an Afrikaans word meaning to grill meat. See, we just tell it like it is!

You ain't lived until you've had a pukka Saffa braai lads. Put it on your "things to do before I die" list.

Thus endeth the lesson from this silly sod

Little late here, but my resolutions are:

1. To work hard to get my finances in order before my lady moves here from England next year. After my trip over Walrus, I now see what you mean about not having spare cash for a few drinks.

2. Float More

Happy New Year Everyone.

Tim
