Motoryacht for AC in Spain?

I'm going to the America's Cup in Valencia next year. We are considering taking delivery of a 65-75' Motoryacht there, staying aboard and watching the races, then shipping it back to British Columbia.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

I have no idea what is required to operate a private motoryacht in that size range in the Med. Do I need a license? A Skipper? My head examined? Would we be able to get close enough to see the races in a private yacht?

Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to put a 75 boat on a yacht transport ship and get it from Europe to the west coast of Canada?

I don't know if precisely from British Columbia, but I've read a wealth of people have similar plans.

If the yacht were under the Spanish flag, you'd need to be a "Capitan de Yate" (Something like Ocean Yach Master) or to hire one. Being under foreign flag, authorities may ask for the captain being fully licensed under the rules of the yacht's country's flag.

No idea, but you may ask the organization:

Thanks Guillermo!

The need for a "Capitan de Yate" is the killer.

You've come through again!

Not wishing to speak for Guillermo, but he did say, if it's not a Spanish flagged vessel, the authorities "may ask for the captain being fully licensed under the rules of the yacht's country's flag".

If it is your vessel, the Authorities may want to see what ever would be required in your country. I think the achilles heel of your plan is you want the boat on the west coast of Canada. Lots of boats are shuttled to and from the East Coast, but then I should think it will start to get expensive.

I don't follow the Canada Dollar that closely, but it's been a long time since the US dollar has been so weak. For them it's certainly not the best time to go shopping in Europe at the moment. If I open my window, I can hear American tourists whineing about the cost of everything as they wander along the street here.
