| Mariachi in the evening.. This evening a Mariachi trumpet started warming up, somewhere up the hill from me. It started out as simple scales, and wound up with elaborate flourishes. A nice little serenade as the sky turned colors, the sun set, and darkness came in on a cool breeze. Eventually, the whole band started playing. Apparently someone's having a party. A Quinceañera, maybe? That's sort of the Mexican equivalent of a debutante ball or coming out party, held to celebrate a girl's fifteenth birthday. I'm far enough away that I can't hear much from the stringed instruments. But the horns come through nicely, even inside the house. Interestingly, one of them is a cornet instead of a trumpet. It took me a while to figure out why one instrument sounded bright and the other rich.... Yeah, I know. Nothing to do with boating. But it's a nice background as I sit and unwind --with a Bushmills instead of a bourbon, for a change. Theoretically, I'm home from work. But my wife's at the other house, so I'm on my own anyway. I have a potato in the oven, a bag of pre-fab salad in the fridge along with a jar of chipotle ranch dressing, and a nice New York steak I'm getting ready to fry up in a cast-iron steak pan I got for Christmas.

| In my hood...somehwere in the concrete canyons ashore ...is a lone bagpiper who occasionally comes to life at sunset. |

Eventually I found him; he was standing at the edge of the largest pond in full Scottish regalia, facing the water while he played. When he took a break, I commented on the way the music seemed to be blanketing the entire park, with no apparent source. He grinned and said, "I know. That's why I come down here." Fortunately he was a very good bagpiper, and a pleasure to listen to....

We hear similar sounds at night. A card door slams, tyres squeal, and "La Cucaracha" fills the air. |

| I just loves Mexican music, especially when the acoustic guitars are played ![]() Remember seeing a vampire movie "Dusk to Dawn" a long time ago and in the bar there was a Mariachi playing a brilliant piece on the guitar - anyone know what the song was by any chance?

| Thanks Hoyt, The part I refer to is where an ugly Mariachi plays the guitar whilst a sexy lady dances in the bar just before she bared her fangs and turned into an ugly blood sucker...

| I had a relative by marriage who loved to play the trumpet. I remember that he was old, born around 1915 ... had a disease of the gums, and lost several teeth, almost all. had to make dentures. Despite this, he insisted on playing .... I can say you that was a big big problem! One day he lost, as usual, the dentures. Playing on a solo . He had a small dog from a hole ... fox terrier, not pure. The dog stole the dentures from the ground and ran away. ....... so the dentist laughed, he did the repair for free! ............ At the funeral there is always an idiot who brings out the story. When we return we are full of shame. With the belly which hurts from laughing. ............................. For us it is a big problem. Dying in itself is unpleasant. think that at your funeral a lot of people will try to hold back the laughter, then it is really annoying. ............ more you try to hold back the laughter, the more it gets worse. has anyone tried before the ceremony, to take one hand the idiot. was a disaster. They came back laughing in two. ........... I hope of not being, at my funeral. |
