looking for information on ~11' early submarine "Maryell"

Hi folks, away back in 1938-39 a gent by name of Barney Connett designed and built a sub named "Maryell" it was a tad over 11 ft. long. He ran around Lake Michigan, crossed several times from Chicago to Michigan City, Indiana.He featured with it in "Ripley's Believe it or not" and obtained rank in WW2 U.S.Army. I have 3 pics of it as shown in Mechanix Illustrated 1939 but there must be more info out there. Regards Rayman..

Back in 1938, an “Iron Fish” took to the waters of Lake Michigan. A green and yellow behemoth,
known as Maryell, reared its head 12 miles off the Chicago shoreline before submerging back under lake
waters. The metal fish was really a submarine built and navigated by Chicago-area mechanic Barney Connett.
Maryell was 11 feet long, weighed slightly more than 1000 pounds, and was decorated with the features
of a giant trout, including eyes and gills. The sub covered the 30-mile distance between Michigan
City, Indiana, and Chicago’s Navy Pier in just less than 11 hours. Connett’s journey was complicated by a
storm, lack of oxygen in the sub, and by the fact he forgot about his lunch.

Oh and the missing lunch was the biggest problem...?
