Un precedented riots in London, mindless arson and plain looting for profit along with fun for those mentally inclined.

The old and young having houses torched and business burnt to the ground.

Under these circumstance im reluctant to come to the conclusion that protecting yourself against these mobs with a police force on such serious cut back that they are impotent is necessary.

Delay in responding has encouraged this, looters seeing the police stand and watch totally un capable of doing anything has encouraged this to escalate.

This is just the beginning.

Yes, what a mess. I've been following the story a bit and noticed that there seems to be a clear racial divide.

I hope Europe doesn't end up like the States did. Not sure how far lost the cultures there are, but that is nearly all that is left of the culture I identify with. In the States, my culture exists only in small pockets, such as the extreme Northeast.

Will they be able to put these rioters down?

Sorry to say this, but blind justice has been served and they had it coming.....

One of my favourite music videos is "Whiter shade of Pale" by Procol Harem filmed in the late 60's and in the video parts of London and Trafalgar square is shown and what is very noticeable, is the lack of a black face or Indian.....

Back to the (racial) riots. Perhaps the UK and elsewhere will understand NOW why we had segregation in the past here in South Africa. Unfortunately it was labelled and got a name few foreigners can pronounce decently, namely apartheid.
It was not so much about racism as such, but different cultures altogether. Even now I still cannot relate to them since I have nothing in common with them. You can just not live in harmony with them period. They (mostly) are noisy, and by nature lazy and dishonest and corrupt. And they have this ability to multiply faster than rabbits. We have thousands of squatter shacks springing up daily as proof of this.
30 years ago we were 3 million odd whites and they about 10 mil. Today they are about 50 mi strong and the white population still static. Whites have a sense of responsibility towards their kids and will have only one or two children mostly to provide a decent upbringing. Not so for the black - usually he has more than one wife and breeding soccer teams with them and the result poverty - no other option available for this behaviour.

Of course a black person cannot ask, but demand as we are used to in SA. Just this morning on the radio it was announced that SA is the strike capitol of the world and usually rioting will go with that. It’s in their genes. Funny, a white here does not know how to strike - again that sense of responsibility, even when dissatisfied.

It actually getting funny here (for us whites) where black turn on black (and in some situations, Pakistanis) with xenophobia attacks against blacks from neighbouring countries that are illegally and legally here that take there jobs etc. The other day one was set alight by the Winnie Mandela necklace method - tyre filled with petrol pushed over victim and set alight....

And this is what’s happening now in the UK. Blacks took over suburbs bringing with that all the negative associated with the black culture and them taking up jobs putting the average pom out on street. It will only get worse in the future.
Then of course there is also the Indian / Pakastani invasion the UK have to deal with on top of this.

I will make this statement - go into any district or suburb taken over by blacks and look at the deterioration thereof. My country is a great example of that - the blacks inherited a decent country with excellent infrastructures and services. What is left now after only 16 years??. Roads littered with potholes, corruptness, crime, disfunctioning social issues, bankrupt municipalities with residents taking over to have basic services...need I go on?
Then there is Zimbabwe, Zambia and the rest of Africa - this is the show case of the incompetence of the black African to rule a country after the colonials have left.

And again funny, was it not the UK that start sanctioning SA in the apartheid area and provided safe heaven for the anc (a terrorist organisation at the time) to operate against SA with terror attacks against civilians and government....What they are experiencing now serves them right.

Disclaimer: I am not a racist but am speaking my mind as I had lived and experienced through this for the last 55 years in SA. My culture is dear to me and to that I can relate and tell me who I am.

While I understand what you mean --and I know a SA here and he will ecko your thoughts, I know he does, poor guy lost farms and a 300 job marina. He left SA in his 45 foot yacht with so many blacks on the dock begging him not to leave the dock was sinking.

Now back to London,--it is not quite the same. The blacks in SA are indigenous they were born and bred there. It was theirs before you say it was yours. Im not being rude here but you are what, Dutch descent? any way it does'nt matter the London violence has destroyed many blacks homes and businesses it was not aimed at whites just the shop with most loot in it. It is mindless looting and in London last night it was stopped.

Actually, the 'original' inhabitants of South Africa were the Khoisan (otherwise known as Bushmen and Hottentots). They're an ancient and distinct racial and cultural group.

Today's blacks in South Africa are largely descended from Bantu tribes, who were moving down from the north about the same time the Dutch landed and started moving up as Boers. The simplified version of history is that there was a collision, and the Boers came out on top.

There's a lot of room for arguing that the Boers and other immigrant whites misplayed their hand, and in the long run created a lot of today's problems by keeping the blacks uneducated and powerless. But I'd say today's SA whites are at least as 'native' as the blacks are, and have just as much right to be there. If you were going to put the people who were there first in charge, you'd have to give it back to the Khoisan instead. Which ain't gonna happen....

Maybe they should be allowed to start opening casinos, like American Indians. I remember a political cartoon which shows a guy on the floor in front of a row of slot machines, kicking and crying and pounding his fists, like a kid throwing a tantrum. A couple of Indians are watching him -- dressed in business suits, but with braided hair, and flat-brimmed hats with feathers stuck in the hat bands.

Race plays a part here, but don't ignore the social and economic divides. There is a widening gulf between the haves and have nots, and an underclass without much hope for their futures. Our current government of ex public schoolboys are completely unaware of this ,and were taken by surprise. They will ignore it at their peril ,the overtaxed ,over regulated middle class are taking note too. Meanwhile the price of Olympic tickets will probably go through the floor.

I don't like the course this discussion has taken. None of us was given a choice where to be born and what color of skin would he/she like to have, so lets respect other persons for what they are, as they can't be blamed for being born black or yellow or green, and we have no merits in having been born white. Race-based and religion-based divisions are not the consequence but one of main origins of social problems and tensions.
As about riots in England, it is all about economical and existential problems of vast percentage of population.. The only one to be blamed is the unhuman, banks-driven economical system which runs the world and slowly but efficiently corrodes even the economically most developed the nations. This is all about poor vs. rich - not about the blacks vs. whites. And there will be more of it in the future, if we don't radically change the system of values which governs our societies.

There are some color of skin comments here, but I want to point out that my comments are not among them.

I am pointing to culture. I am from a northern European cultural descent. I share my common values of what is important in life with people of European descent. This can include many types of skin colors, including black or Asian or anyone, actually, so long as they practice the European type culture.

However, there are other cultures taking over my country. One is the "gangster" type culture you see with the baggy pants, increased tattoos and violence. This gangster culture celebrates stupidity and violence. It includes blacks, whites, asians and hispanic/latinos. This is no a European descent culture.

Secondly, there is a "Hispanic/Latino" culture taking over my country. This is not such a bad culture, but it is at odds with my own culture, which is that of traditional USA (European cultural descent).

Look at it this way: Would you like for gangster type people to move into Northern Italy? Would you like them to change the food available at your restaurants to something else? Would you like them to cause operas to go out of business from lack of interest? Would you like them to cause an unfriendly atmosphere with litter and garbage strewn about the streets? Would you like them to nearly boycott the Italian educational system and sell drugs instead?

See? This is what is happening in many areas (especially in the States).

It has nothing to do with skin color. It has everything to do with losing a culture you prize.

What makes you Italian? It's not your skin color, though that does help. It is a shared sense of community, country and culture. It is an understanding of how you fit into the local community and how people behave and act within the community. These are the very things that are changing in my country. We are losing the place we live to a massive swing in culture away from European descent culture and toward a 3rd world culture of gangsters and Hispanic, South American type culture.

It is not enjoyable. Imagine losing the lake/mountain region you call home to a new type of people who move in and displace you. Now imagine there are laws in place to help them get jobs while you are left to your own devices, even though they outnumber you in larger cities and regions.

This is the type of situation we are facing in my country. This is what I am talking about. I knew plenty of black, asian, hispanic, etc... people who were part of my culture. Now, the culture is on a serious decline and vanishing quickly.

I would like to live my years out among people of my own culture, no matter what their skin color.

Thanks Daiquiri... the thread was nauseous. It's simply the revolt of poverty, combined with the hate other partial product of poverty , as we have many historical examples.
The terms written by some guys here were also used to describe poor white English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people in the XIXth century, from probably the same guys now are descendants. It's striking that I hear some rich Mexican saying exactly the same about poor Mexicans...
For some, just a precision: Indian and Pakistaneses are not black...Aryans, speaking Aryan languages if you like to use some ill fated terminology...

Latino culture is of European descent, mostly Spanish (with Portuguese in Brazil and Italian in Argentina). Different from the Amerindian cultures as I see here with the Mayas, Yaquis and Nahualt.
Italy is a big mix with huge cultural differences between the north and the south. When Venetians do not want to be understood by Romans, the speak venetian...And I have some Sicilian friends who look very north African...

The "gang" culture is a product of poverty, not race. It was and is common in Europe like were the "Apaches" in Paris at the beginning of the XX th century, there are many examples. Even Robin Hood was a gangster...

Its not poverty, there is no poverty, poverty gets them drunk? there is social security and benefits rent paid and a free health care system that US has not. They are many times better of than working people with good jobs in India and Pakistan but they did'nt loot there because the consequences are different.

Boredom and the possibility of a new 42 inch LED in return for a few hours community work is the reason.

Young men need something to do --maybe they see the Tv and Libya and Syria and think -cool- like a stupid young man would.
