Thats good Bos so why don't grown ups do that and get rid of the sticks/guns etc.

How can you teach a kid with "do what I say not what I do"

I don't now who said "its a shame that youth is wasted on the young" but he hit the nail on the head with that one. Sounds like Winston Churchill!!

I'm an American and I'm telling you not to get a gun.
Move if you don't feel safe.
If you want a gun that's your free choice Frosty. That's no way to have to live for me.

I agree with you there. There are plenty of problems but at least I feel safe every day. There is enough space to not deal with the crazies unless you want to.

Correction; in today's Sunday newspaper an article that life sentence parole have been reduced to 13 years for good behaviour...

More reason now for hardcore criminals to rob, murder, rape and plunder in South Africa.

Buying them a gun is just --just --- ridiculous.

I guess our cultures are further apart than we are led to believe.

But they live 300 miles from Tottenham in a village that has cucumber competitions and a duck pond in it.

Wait a minute though in the next village Poulton they do still have the stocks in the square just outside the police station and the Church. Many a batchelor has woken up naked in those on Saturday morning, maybe there use could be revived.

The pic is almost as it is today except the cobbles are now tarmac, the big tree at the end is in the Grave yard and on the top left is the Golden ball pub, But ive never been there !!!!!!!!!! There is 4 pubs in that square actually.

They were built there in 1315 thats ohhh---- before America, and now the Americans are telling us to get guns.
I'll agree that if your parents aren't already knowledgeable and comfortable around guns, it's a little late to try giving them one now. There's a limit to the new tricks you can teach old dogs.

I was mostly pointing out that age in itself is no barrier to gun ownership. In fact, a gun can keep an elderly person on an equal footing with the young punks who want to take advantage of them.

Yep, that's it. As a card-carrying liberal, I obviously raised my children to become rioters, looters, criminals and welfare layabouts.

But they've disappointed me by rejecting everything I taught them. They've become solid citizens, and done horrible things -- such as getting jobs, obeying speed limits, and joining the military that helps protect your right to say completely idiotic things in public.

Reality check: Scandinavian governments are among the most socialist in the world. How many Norwegian, Danish or Finnish riots have you ever seen in the news?

as we become more populous and as those populations mix the tendencies of one cultural norm have a habit of crossing cultural lines. Overall I'd say we all loose, I suppose we all idealize the culture we associate with most even if its not the predominant culture we live in. Point being is its a function of overpopulation.

There are nuts sprinkled liberally all over the world. But while they may add flavor to a nation's culture, they don't define it

We should define a country or a culture by the norms most of its citizens adhere to, rather than by the actions of a disturbed handful who flout those norms.

That rule seems to get broken regularly by too many observers of the US, who insist on judging law-abiding American citizens by the actions of a relative handful of gang bangers and criminals -- many of whom weren't even born here.

As always, mathematics can help.

Start with the assumption that the fraction of "normal people" of a population is constant in all countries. Similarly with the lunacy rate and the fraction of complete bastards.

Under that assumption, the USA has 15 times more bastards than Australia, but only about 1/4 the number of Chinese bastards.

QED.

Overpopulation is easily curable with a nuclear war. Why don't you admit it?

Well, while the statement might be true, c'mon, Hoyt. You have got to admit that a nuke is far to indiscriminate, with quite nasty after-effects. I would much prefer something like a very good sniper equipped with the proper bolt-action in 7.62 NATO. Very selective, and will quite probably get only the intended target.

No I think Hoyt as a good point,-- as usual.

A nuclear device placed center USAA+ would make a lovely correction in overpopulation.
