Leaving aside causes, how does this boat rate?

Ignoring activism, politics, and causes, how does this boat rate as a design?

How would it rate as a design for its intended purpose?

(this time I'm not interested in whether its purpose is right, wrong, indifferent, illogical, or logical. that's an issue of its own)

Does its form follow its function?

Japanese whalers to face new enemy in 'Godzilla'
By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com

A controversial animal-rights group preparing to embark on its annual harassment campaign against Japanese whalers has stepped up its effort this season by enlisting the aid of ... Godzilla.

The swift and ominous-looking interceptor vessel has the moniker Gojira, named after the ferocious monster in the legendary Japanese film, which in English means Godzilla

The old Nigel Irens "Cable and Wireless"

Quote:
The MV Gojira (formerly Ocean 7 Adventurer) is a unique high-tech 35 m (115 ft) stabilized monohull twin diesel powered vessel designed by Nigel Irens. Construction of the Adventurer began in June 1997 and she was launched on March 16, 1998. The official naming ceremony took place on 3 April 1998 in London's West India Dock.
Originally named the Cable and Wireless Adventurer she was built for the purpose of circumnavigating the world in less than 80 days. This was successfully accomplished in July 1998 in 74 days, 20 hours, 58 minutes, traveling more than 22,600 nautical miles (41,800 km). Among the crew, Doctor Melinda Brecknell, A British doctor who has embarked on many other adventures, including treating the poor in Costa Rica and the rich in Singapore. This achievement set a new Guiness World Record for a powered vessel. However, on June 27, 2008 Earthrace, the biodiesel powered wave-piecing trimaran, set a new world record when it docked at the Vulkan shipyard in Sagunto, Spain after completing a circumnavigation in just 60 days 23 hours and 49 minutes.
I suppose it could be classed as a passagemaker eh?

"Cable and wireless adventurer?"

That has to be one of the worst boat names I think I've ever heard!

The boat is designed for sustained high speed cruising in a bluewater environment and so given her intended use in a search and intercept function it should probably work fairly well.

Keep in mind her original design brief was to go around the world quickly and she was very successful at this. How well those abilities will translate into her new role remains to be seen.

Given their focus on finding the factory ship it seems like something with a helicopter / seaplane capability would be better. An aircraft with surface search radar could cover a lot more space looking for the factory vessel than a fast surface ship would.

For extended sojurns on the open sea it would be preferable to have a vessel of cheery construction to carry plenty of bear and Bar B Que.

A design such as this may be better suited for Ramming Whaleing Boats

Can it be operated single handed? Due it's size it might need pro crew?
