Last voyage for Costa Concordia cruise ship

Found this picture of Concordia attached to the side sponsons (http://www.theparbucklingproject.com/article/99/Concordia_refloating_-_news_from_july_21th#):

Now, Concordia's beam is 35.5 m. Rescaling the picture based on that data and measuring the overall beam with sponsons, I get 56 meters overall beam of the ship plus sponsons. See the attached pdf.

They say that the ship will be brought to the dry-dock n.4 in Genova port. This page here: http://www.portnet.it/genova/contenuti/UKgecant.htm says that the dry dock n.4 is 40 m wide. So it can't get in with the sponsons attached.
How the hell will they push the ship inside the dry dock?

 

This post describes the four phases of de-constructing Costa Concordia (copied below). The sponsons will not be removed until phase III, and only for phase IV will Costa Concordia be moved inside drydock #4.

For all the worriers out there, it's about 20 more NM (so about 0500Z 25 July) before a you start looking for a "unfortunate loss" similiar to the one the soviets had while towing thier disabled K-219 YANKEE in 1986 Some ships under tow have proved quite obstinate, like the afore mentioned USS Oklahoma, the brazilian battleship Sao Paulo, and recently the ex russian liner Lyubov Orlova.

Quite a group of ships. They are closing in on Genoa.

Those dry docks shown above may not be long enough. I think I found three more dry docks farther to the west that may be long enough. And there is even a Carnival liner parked near by to get perspective.

 

The ship is now tucked in behind the breakwater. The breakwater does not show up very well in this graphic.

As the stricken Costa Concordia limped its way towards Genoa last week, all of Italy was remembering the 32 people who lost their lives in the cruise ship disaster.


All of Italy, it would seem, except the captain of the ship.


Francesco Schettino, the slick-haired skipper of the doomed vessel, was photographed on Friday jetting around the holiday island of Ischia, accompanied by a gaggle of glamorous women.


As images emerged of Schettino chatting on his mobile phone as he steered a speed boat, local media suggested he was celebrating signing a book deal.


The huge cruise ship is due to arrive in Genoa on Saturday night or early Sunday morning, where it will finally be broken down – two and a half years after the catastrophic accident.

Well, the USN has a couple of spare carriers otherwise going to scrap it could crash into the rocks off Giglio. Even better, the flight decks could support helicopter traffic and maybe even light planes to bring tourists to/from the island.
