We could see new software in cruise ships that alert the top officers in charge of the ship when the current course will deviate from the approved course in x-minutes and then the catch all alert to all ie; top officers of vessel, coast guard and the cruise ship owners when the position is out of preapproved course margins.

This I think would be an effective solution.

From "The Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill" by James C. Humes:

Late in his life, Sir Winston took a cruise on an Italian ship. A journalist from a New York newspaper approached the former prime minister to ask him why he chose to travel on an Italian line when the Queen Elizabeth under the British flag was available.

Churchill gave the question his consideration and then gravely replied: "There are three things I like about Italian ships. First, their cuisine, which is unsurpassed. Second, their service, which is quite superb. And then — in time of emergency — there is none of this nonsense about women and children first."

Another story about Churchill concerns a very large debt he had owing to a Monte Carlo casino. Churchill raked together enough to pay up, but the casino owner never cashed the cheque. And Gian, his reputation is really founded on oratory, certainly not as a military genius, with the unfortunate adventures of the Turkish campaign of WW1, and his enthusiasm for the attack on the "soft underbelly" of Italy quickly becoming the "tough old gut" debacle.

Any case, Facts are facts. It is undeniable the behavior of South Italians; they are so made. It's very difficult to see change a people.
The Germans, for example, cannot disobey an order. If on Concordia are dead so many Germans, may be they have obeyed to revert back to the cabins.
Here we're pretty plagued by this tremendous suspicion. they have obeyed orders and are dead!

thrusters have little or no effect at speed

Means 2 conventional props each mounted on it's own shaft and independently powered...conventional twin screw

Perhaps those stabilizers were retracted at time of initial contact/impact.

You'd think it would be quite easy to arrange something like that.
I'd be interested to hear arguments against it.
