| Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott published 1884 Edwin A. Abbot wrote a book called Flatland in 1884. It is available online: http://www.alcyone.com/max/lit/flatland/ i read it many years ago, did not read it again but can remember it starts with a character living in a one dimensional world that has a first encounter with a two dimensional one. Part of the book is encouraging you to think about multi-dimensional worlds. Diquised as a love story this was a very popular book and it left a cult of followers having competitions like "how to build the best two dimensional lock".
