OK. I was just asking, and it appears as if it's a dumb question.

You have to be aggresive!!,I'm not suggesting that you should be ruthless about it. It's a lonf way back down the ladder of success and you'll pass all those ppl on the way.

Seadogs - Greed - definately not - don't screw your customers or your men and then you do have to be totally ruthless in every other way.

My Father (who was building about 250 houses a year at the time before we bought into the steel profiling business) used to say to me, 'Son, with any Boss, from your mens perspective you are either a fool or a B$*^&d with no middle ground in between, and you are far better being a B$*^&d, but if you are a fair B$*^&d, then you have achieved all that you can as a Boss'.

If you think about that you will, I am sure, agree and so will the workforce whether they would like to or not.

Strong Management is the only way to a happy workforce as some security will be gained and if you can nurture a belief in what you are doing as a team, together, you will have happy and loyal men.

I don't agree with greed at all, it is abhorrent, all my men share in a bonus, if the Company does well, then so do they. I am only as good as they are so I never, ever S$&t on them at any time (although they may tell you otherwise).
I also thank them regularly for their hard work which I appreciate, most of them regularly go the 'extra mile' when required without asking.

Greed is never good, ever, and I am amazed you would admit that as an owner of a business even if it were true.

I don't mean to sound patronising and I am sorry if I have come across a little strongly but I think you are so wrong, try it the other way and see the dividends which it will pay you in every way.

Paul.

And then you can employ a Health and Safety Advisor and blame him! Trouble is we're wise to that, and consider it an honour to be hated (you've finally arrived when your name is on the toilet wall! you know what I mean!) and charge the 'boss' a fortune for our services.

the good thing is you know it makes sense and we have the law on our side! Could save you a fortune if used properly, most don't! until too late!

You are correct. The other Latin quote should actually be Noli illegitimae carborundum - Noli meaning "be unwilling" (to let the b***stds wear you down).

Another nice one is Semper in Faeces, solum profundum variat. Always in the **** - only the depth varies.
