Idjit... he should have used a router

You know, with a real lathe and a dado blade on a table saw...

 

He's one of those guys that will survive anywhere with whatever is available.

 

I don't know, he doesn't seem clever enough to survive too much. He goes to all that trouble, risking serious injury without even the sense to secure the drill press, just to turn out a useless object of bad quality. If he can do it one handed or fingerless, well, then he might be a survivor. Then again, all his cheap *** piece of **** tools are probably so underpowered they might be a saving factor, not having enough power to do real damage, let alone good work. I guess he might be on the path to survivor status, providing he doesn't kill or maim himself before he graduates Darwin U.

Precisely what I gather from this video is the opposite. He seems one of those people who may suffer great damage, he or his hand or his eyes, at any time if he continues doing this nonsense.

 

It goes without saying that even the proper tool can be dangerous. That said, between my ShopSmith (need to work out an extended ways, which is actually not that hard since I'm not gonna be turning logs like this guy does, see below) and my Belsaw Molder/Planer (need to build a sled to hold my sticks at an angle) I figure I've got most of what I'll need for either a small birds mouth mast or fancy columns for some gazebo.

What a typical hillbilly...personally I'd have used a chainsaw.

 

Look, in the field you use what you have. I've made portable table saws by simply holding a circular saw between my knees and feeding stock through the blade. Yeah, it's dangerous, but you only need to loose part of a finger to realize how much more careful you need to be next time. Anyone working "on site" has to invent ways to do things, sometimes, so not a big deal really. Now this guy, who knows, maybe he's just too stupid or too cheap or maybe he's simply got enough experience to know that sometimes, especially if you don't have to be particularly precise, you can "fake it" with a setup like that. In reality, he didn't need the circular saw, using cutting tools, just like on a lathe and the work would have been as clean as the bearings on the drill motor would permit.

 

Holding a circular saw between your knees Par? My fingers would be the last thing I would worry about cutting off.

It is interesting to read the comments. Some people don't like change or things that are different. Others embrace change and innovation.
