Back to the main topic

I bought a motorhome too. I live in it. Then I built myself a 12 foot dinghy so I can go boating too. but with out all the hassles of owning a large boat. So, enjoy your motorhome. It has many of the same benefits as living on a boat, but without the risk of sinking, galvanic corrosion, rot, delamination, etc etc....

$4750 a piece - two ready to go now...
$6.85 a square foot for 5086 3/16 5x20 aluminum sheet...

I have no idea how people feel regarding Bolger taking his life - we cannot relate to one life - he was his own man in so many damned ways...
I respect what he did for himself - I cannot say that it was honourable - I cannot speak for the man or for his loved ones...
What I feel - is that he made a choice not to lay in a bed ridden state - hooked up and bothered by student MD's...
I AM SORRY - but for me - that is an honourable life choice...
As for Boat Fan - I am so sorry - but the Bolger Watervan is just ugly - yet you like same - so - I am posting you an Xmas card in advance - should print to 11 x 8.5 - INCHES - CDN landscape ...
I mean - but - that thing is just butt F'cking ugly...
PS. - for Gonzo - the 'illegal' urinal is a go - find me and fine me...

I miss Phil Bolger. He's been part of my life since I first became interested in boats years ago and started buying his books. I can't count the number of times I started to write him with a question about some idea I had, then just answered the question myself as I thought he would have. But I never had any doubt that had I actually sent one of those letters, I'd have gotten a response from him....and a sensible one.

I would never build some of his most practical designs, because I think they're butt ugly. But I respected his willingness to challenge conventional aesthetics, and not worry about making something look properly 'boaty.'

The Watervan design doesn't bother me at all aesthetically though, any more than I'm upset because my old 32' Georgie Boy motor home (that I'm sitting in as I type this) doesn't look like a sports car. Hell...if he'd included a sail plan for the Watervan, I might have built one.

Incidentally, I was also surprised to find out a year or two ago that Phil was a bit of a fellow gun nut. According to a fellow designer, he owned 'an entire arsenal.' So he had the proper tool at hand when he decided to go meet Death on the road, instead of waiting for him to knock on the door.

Although I'm saddened by his loss, I can't really fault him for wanting to avoid the senility and disintegration he had watched his grandfather go through. And I'd like to think he's sailing through the clouds now, finally having the time to personally test some of the hundreds of designs he spent his life creating. But realistically, it's more likely he's sitting at a heavenly drawing board, pumping out new ideas instead....

Thanks Troy...

Hello...
I sat with a loved one who did not will a DNR (do not resuscitate) - the hospital sucked his insurance dry - and hooked him up to many machines - while I sat there - a teaching doctor brought in a group of student MD's - safe to say - I went a bit ballistic...
That is just me - I understand now that they were not at fault...
INCLUDE A DNR IN YOUR WILL - WRITE A WILL - if that is your choice...
Sorry folks - this year alone - my Grandfather - my Father - and today a silly little cat - **** year - soon to be over...
Bolger was a brilliant and clear thinking man...
I have to give something to the USA - you have a choice - you have a direct vote - that is good...

We lost my father and my mother-in-law less than a month apart last year; and my mother and one of my brothers not long before that. So I have some idea what you're going through. Hang in there.

It reminds me of the old "shotgun" houses in Louisianna. Beautiful in its simplicity. Elegant in its utility.

Hi Scratchy & Itchy.... better make sure about the grass on the other side. Things are a bit fckuked up here, there will be very little grass soon.

If I was you I'd wait a couple of years. Just because things are kept quiet doesn't mean it's not bad. We haven't hit the low yet.
