    We know of Pele, Gian.
In america, soccer (your football) is a sport usually chosen by the smaller lads in school. Basketball by the tallest boys, Football (american) by the biggest and strongest.
Soccer doesn't have much of a fan base. American football, on the other hand, is more important and more fanatical than politics!
Baseball and soccer are mostly summer games, and baseball more popular and played by all. Football is an autumn sport. Basketball, hockey, and wrestling winter sports. Swimming and track year round. We also play lacrosse, tennis, volley ball, golf, boxing, and skiing (in snow areas). Football overshadows all.

As an organized sport, ping pong is relatively new. About 40 years old. I also didn't mention billiards, darts, horseshoes, archery, shooting, mounted sports, ice skating, water polo, or sailing either. Popular sports, but not great "spectacles" for spectators. So small fan base

Now horse racing, dog racing, dog fighting, cock fighting, and fishing and hunting have their fans. But the % of fan poulation is decreasing.

Is Jai Alai played anywhere in USA other than Florida? By anyone other than cubans? LOL

My apologies for omitting mentioning any sport with a fan among our members here. Motocross, car racing , bycycling, hydroplane racing, airplane racing, jacks, jump rope, hop scotch, greased pole climbing, and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey! And any others I foolishly neglected! :D

It isn't played by Cubans so much. Most of the players in Tampa were Basque.

A quick review -- of first jet to fly as of present info still is the Heinkel. More research could change that as it is changing other records, I.E a big debate is now on who was actually the first in power flight. The french (France) is knocking on the "record" door with "Bleriot" ( ?? name) Forgive me if i have the wrong name as another name beginning with the letter "A" seems to clutter my memory. The lightbulb and telephone inventors likewise are now under scrutney. Here in North America we tend to overlook some of the great work of European Inventors. France a prime example-- their work in the Atomic field --(Madame Currie). Their work advancing submarine technology (First to use bow planes). In the first world war their rotary engines were so reliable that it was a standing order if one crashed within reach of German troops they were to salvage the engine to be installed in German aircraft and as spares. Eventually the Germans simply copied it.( I have a jug( cylinder) from the French WW1 Ghnome engine, photo inc.) Likewise nothing topped the piston driven RR Merlin of England in the second world war. Famous aircraft (Lancaster-- Spitfire--Mustang) all used it. Another debate is now questions on who was the first to create an atomic explosion-- Looking like Germany might be also knocking on that "Record" door. That doesn't surprise me as German technology in some fields at that time was 20 to 30 years ahead of most of the world, Leadership not being one of course. :) Das Auto-- is continuing to be a good example although the old basic Jeep is still giving it a run for it's money. :D
P.S. this post just a little diversion from politics

I agree that laws shouldn't be easy to pass. A certain amount of inefficiency is built into our system, and that's a good thing. I like inefficient government on the whole, even though it drives me up the wall sometimes. 'Efficient' government would be a dictator dictating what he wants done, and everyone else hopping to make sure it happens.

However, there's a difference between being inefficient, and being ineffectual. I believe Congress crossed to the other shore a long time ago on that one....

Although not the sole villain by a long shot, Newt Gingrich bears a heavy responsibility for promoting political partisanship, incivility and dishonesty over the good of the country while he was Speaker of the House.

He basically ordered Republican members of the House of Representatives to stop associating with or even talking to their Democratic counterparts, on the grounds that they were The Enemy -- rather than a loyal opposition, who also wanted what was best for the country but disagreed on how to get there. He's a major reason I left the Republican Party in disgust, after having been a registered Republican my entire adult life.

Here's a partial transcript of Gingrich's infamous 1996 'GOPAC memo,' where he laid out the negative words that should be used by Republicans to define Democrats.

Of course, he also included a list of positive words, for Republicans to use when referring to themselves or their colleagues. for those who think I'm misquoting Gingrich or taking what he said out of context, here's the entire memo:

And Im from South Africa and our dietary sport is rugby (real men's game), cricket, motor racing and golf.

Thanks for informing that a Pele is a soccer player as I would not know that since Im hating soccer with a passion. Its only played in my country by 99.9% blacks africans and that sits totally outside my culture universe and interests.

No offense meant to any other soccer lover out there, just my personal view about a silly game played and mostly watched by hooligans - refer to press and tv reports of rowdy soccer crowds that regularly make headlines with no respect to others property.....
