Maybe there shouldn't be ANY cap on SS. The more you make, the more you contribute.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States

In 2006, there were approximately 116,011,000 households in the United States. 1.93% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $250,000

Households in the top quintile (i.e., top 20%), 77% of which had two or more income earners, had incomes exceeding $91,705.

if the rich pay a fare share, as Obama wants and I agree, our problems would be cured!

If a couple are each making 110,000 so the joint income is 220,000, they are still paying max SS Fica. Those making more than that 220,000 suddenly aren't paying any additional.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...aires-a-status-shared-by-only-1-of-americans/

About 47 percent of Congress, or 249 current members are millionaires. … In 2010, the estimated median net worth of a current U.S. senator stood at an average of $2.56 million,” according to the Center’s research.

Certainly they have common cause with the rest of us to spread the load evenly! :p

This tension seems greater of late.
Perhaps we just pay attention to when it is raining on our way to work and don't mind the flooding which occurred 70 years ago..

    Here is the transcript:

    http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/01/24/text-of-president-obamas-state-of-the-union-address/

It was a good speech and well received in the hall I would say.
A few lines fell like bricks, a few got real support.

Here is one for this thread:

    "America is back."

"Anyone who tells you otherwise, anyone who tells you that America is in decline or that our influence has waned, doesn’t know what they’re talking about."

"That’s not the message we get from leaders around the world who are eager to work with us. That’s not how people feel from Tokyo to Berlin, from Cape Town to Rio, where opinions of America are higher than they’ve been in years. Yes, the world is changing. No, we can’t control every event. But America remains the one indispensable nation in world affairs –- and as long as I’m President, I intend to keep it that way."

    Talk amongst yourselves...

The rich already pay double income taxes. There is a cap on what is paid in ss taxes because there is a cap in ss payments to the taxpayer.

We should all be taxed the same percentage based on what we spend. That way drug smugglers and hookers would pay the same as we do.
If you buy $100 worth, you pay $10 tax and if you buy $100,000 worth you pay $10,000 tax.

If you buy a $16,000 vehicle you pay $1600 tax. If you buy a $160,000 vehicle you pay $16,000 tax.

Totally fair and everyone gets to help pay their fair share. It would mean the end of yearly income filing with IRS, the end of deductions from your paycheck. You only pay when you buy something. Everybody buys something.

Hiroshima was an industrial city and most schoolchildren had already been evacuated.

    http://www.ww2pacific.com/hiroshima.html

"There are people who believe the US started the War by sinking a Japanese submarine off Pearl Harbor. The sub was trying to enter Pearl Harbor to coordinate destruction of the American fleet with the bombers from six Japanese aircraft carriers. And the very young think the Japanese must have attacked Pearl Harbor to avenge the dropping of a bomb on Hiroshima, because nobody would just start an unprovoked war. Well, it happened. About 55,000,000 people died in WW2. The overlapping Sino-Japanese War may have taken 50,000,000 lives."

The politicians prefer to shut down the parts of the government that actually turn a profit, or serve a useful purpose, like the Parks or the firehouses, never their pet pigs, like shrimp treadmills.

Obama is a great orator who can't lead. We need a great leader whether he can orate or not!

His "dream" seduced me the first election but I've since learned he says what he thinks you want to hear, then can't deliver.
I found a video of the STOTU on PBS. Sounded real good but he avoided mentioning items like the 1000 days no budget, inflation is rampant because of printing money 24 hrs a day, or that 8% unemployment doesn't include folks that have exhausted benefits and fallen off the rolls. It maybe actually be as high as 22%!

Thats's how you get "healthy" shrimp in your diet instead of high chloresterol shrimp that harden your arteries!
And it's making jobs. Physical fitness trainers for shrimp. More techs in sport medicine for rehab of sprained swimmers. Shrimp psycologists for atitude adjustment of shrimp angst. More mfg jobs for treadmills production. And greater revenues for "health food" restaurants for the afluent that don't mind paying lobster prices for shrimp.
And a higher moral tone for our cuisine than decadent oriental "drunken shrimp" dishes!
