Home repair, doors!

Nothing to do with boats, but with wood, that's close?

Our house was painted inside with cheap outside paint,
everything was flat white, walls, ceilings, doors, and
no prep was done! The doors were varnished to start
with and any thing would knock the paint off and the
slightest touch left a dark spot! So we repainted every
thing.

We bought some beautiful antique door hardware only
to find out it would not work as the original holes in the
doors were to big!

Here is a step by step repair I did to seven doors!

First mark the doors and plugs, a chili can of nails was
the perfect size!

Route out the doors and cut out the plugs, this is not
rocket science, I just did it free hand! I like the plugs
a bit proud, I would rather sand them down a bit than
have to fill over them!

A little glue and some 18X3/4 finish brads takes care of
the installation.

A skin coat of body filler.

A quick pass with 120 and the palm sander.

A coat of primer and some paint.

And beautiful new look for our doors!

This is the last one BTW!

We took down the closet doors in our bed room and put
up drapes to cover the opening! The room is small and
I hate bi-fold doors!

That room, the floor is the deck of an old shrimp boat!
Complete with hatches!

BHOFM, In the tradition of "boatdesign" I have seen a kitchen table with an outboard making a fine boat - I think a door could do just as well and may lead to an opening somewhere for a "clock maker"?????
