Yah...dosnt seem correct. The cop got out of his car armed. The drunk was no threat. I think its just another goofy homemade YouTube movie

Looks like a pretty legit way of getting around, did bring a smile to my face- not about the tasering but because back in the 70s when I was a kid my Pop who lived in Gorokan used a ride on mower to get around on, after a working life as a labourer/ fisherman his hips where buggered & while he was waiting for replacements his brother Lawson bought him the mower to get to the shops/TAB etc, time spent at Gorokan was fun, Pop had a Clinker Launch with a Blaxland engine(http://www.oldmarineengine.com/histo...d/blaxland.htm), my neighbor Shipwright Dave bought & restored that launch & was one of the influences to start in the trade myself. My Pop used to grow potatoes on all the vacant lots around his home, he'd seen some hungry times & & would gift spuds around from the tons he'd grow.

Look, stupid should be painful. In the South, a cop gets to do what he has to do for the pain to register. Once. Hell, your neighbors get that much leeway. My first guess was that he was heading in to work at the Oyster Shack, but I could be wrong. Now he's got an excuse for being late- "sorry boss, the cops stopped me." Sure, everyone knows everyone, but you still got to maintain some civility. And this guy crossed the line when he dissed the cop. The cop probably would have driven him home if he'd been civil. Southern hospitality is simply an adptation that results is us not shooting each other on a regular basis. Did you notice how polite the initial contact was? How much you want to bet this guy can shuck oysters or cook crawfish better than anybody within 50 miles?

The best paver layer in Key Largo was a lot like this fellow. If you needed pavers, you went to the jail and posted bail. If he wasn't there, you waited a few days and tried again.

ya I grew up in a couple really small towns and those guys might have even gone to school together. If genius on the mower had just put out the smoke and ditched the whiskey when he heard the siren he Juuuuuuust might have ended up at the Oyster Shack, slim chance but none if you dis the cop.

I'm agreeing with Hoyt. I think the cop suffered from "Authorititus".
It was stupid though, of the fellow on the mower to resist. My dad told me when I first started driving at 14.

"Be very polite and docile when police stop you. Most times, they don't know WHO they stopped. This is an armed man, bored stiff most of the day, and now at this crucial moment, he's VERY nervous! His adrenalin is pumping. Don't give him an excuse to shoot you son!"

I don't think it was Authorititus... I think the cop knew very well who he was dealing with and what measures would probably be required to deal with him. I expect "Steve" is one of the local ne'er do wells and the fact that he was driving down the road drinking whiskey combined with what I expect is a long history of mis-deads makes me think the cop was more than gracious with his attempts to get this guy into custody politely before resorting to the taser.

Perhaps. We will never know the whole story, but if the guy was just a drunk who never caused anyone any trouble he could have well been left alone.
