Help Identifying My Boat.

Hi

Just purchased this boat. Trying to figure out manufacturer/ Model /Manu year. Any help is appreciated.

I was told by previous owner that it was a picton, however they were not sure!

Have you looked at the manufactures prefix on the HIN? The boat's title will have the HIN on it, as well as embossed into the upper right hand corner of the transom, if it's less then 37 years old. If it's older then 37 years, then the make, model and year will be a crap shoot, unless someone recognizes the model.

England has used the same system of Manufacturer ID codes that the US does since the late nineties. If the boat has an HIN it will look like this GB - MICXXXXXXXXX, if it was made in Great Britain. The MICs are assigned by the British Marine Federation http://www.britishmarine.co.uk/ to boat builders in Great Britain. If it was made elsewhere in Europe the GB will be replaced by the country code where it was made. If there is no country code it was probably made in the US or Canada.

As was said, no HIN? then it's a crap shoot unless someone recognizes the boat. Does it have a capacity label? Usually the manufacturer name is on the capacity label.

It's also common to find a manufactures serial number, build number or other identifying mark in a hidden, but accessible location on the hull. Some common locations would be on the inside of the transom, the liner inside a locker, stamped on an engine bed or stringer, etc. you have to literally crawl around in the bowels of the boat to find them and these numbers often don't tell you much, unless you know the numbering system of the manufacture.
