| Hello from Caldwell Idaho My name is Jacob. I just found and joined this site. It looks really exciting! I've been interested in building my own boat for a very long time. I do however live in a high desert, and don't have alot of access to people that are very familiar with doing this. That is where I could see this site being extremely helpful. I really love a good challenge and teaching myself something new so I think between my "abilities" and the knowlege I can pick up here I should be able to make something happen. If I can teach myself how to gunsmith I think I should be able to at least make something float! LOOL. So thats it. Hello. Look forward to talking with all of you. If anyone is in Idaho give me a holler. |

| Welcome to the dungeon Jacob, as I see it you only got one small problem -if you build a boat how you gonna use it without water? Useful stuff is water (or is yur middle name Noah? maybe know something we don't? Don't forget thr bloody unicons next time nd theres a whole list of things you can forget - like politicians, don't really matter whose they are all the same) |

![]() ![]() ![]() I guess you use these magic unicorns to move your boats around when they are out of the water? I really DO have alot to learn about this boat stuff! I thought you guys used trailers. My point regarding the high desert is that im not surrounded like one would be in a costal city by people who are life long water folks and who are use to building boats. We've got plenty of water in Idaho, just not around every corner. This however is 15 minutes away. ![]() Thanks for the greeting Trevlyns |

| Hi Doc (it that MD or PhD?). The pics are gorgeous. Reminds me what much of Oregon looked like before the people from California found us. You'll probably be surprised by the number of boat builders around. What part of Idaho? ![]() |

| Hi Lo Doc, You have landed where all the "trash" hides (Open Forum), we are a friendly bunch - prone to foul language (see http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/sho...723#post216723 ) the expertise you seek is readily available and generally willingly given.... Have a good read to get 'the lay of the land' then start a thread in the appropriate forum... For diversion and some laughs don't forget the dungeon.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Welcome.... The search function at the top of each page is also useful searching on this net and outside (powered by google) and by clicking on "a friend" you can access lots of stuff as well.

![]() Artemis I was born and raised here in the southwest desert of this great state (Boise valley/Owyhee desert) and brother let me tell you, Oregon and Idaho will see the same fate. It's already happened here and will just continue to compound. Our quality of life here is too good. Don't get me wrong, all the new people can have their bennefits, but the glory days I grew up in are gone. Oh, and about the Dr. thing...the only thing I'm a docter of is luuuv. LOOL! That and eating spicey chicken. Hey THANKS Masalai. Much appreciated! Those who know me best know I might not have strong sea legs, but I do have a sailors mouth. Sounds like I'm in good company Plus I've never met an Australian that didn't kick some ass one way or another. Got mad respect for your country. I know I can't be that bad off around here. I have been getting acquainted with the search feature, and been doing alot of reading of existing posts (includding a casual all day foray into a "random picture thread" sum 110+ pages long.) There was no way out once I clicked the first page. alot of incredible, and entertaining images and conversations. Most recently in regards to boat building I've been fascinated by the principles and design of all types of hydroplanes. The whole concept intrigues me. Ive no illusions of thinking I'm going to build something like this beauty below, but if all things are right and a person is patient and dedicated they can accomplish incredible things. The real fun in my opinion is the journey, and the people you meet along the way. ![]() |

| Beautiful pictures there, yep you sure need aboat, but certainly not one of thsoe stinkpot things! The area looks to nice and peaceful for that! Ain' too many peaceful areas in the world today -keep it that way as long as you can (don't tell us lot about it is a good start, ooops to late!!) As Mas said down here in the dungeon we don't really go in for all this boat stuff (not seriously I mean) down here we have fun -for the technical stuff even we go upstairs, but if you do have a problem most of us can and will help in someway - trouble is we ain't polite about it! But what you do get is truth! If w think your wrong or will fcuk up we'll tell ya! If we don't we'll give you all the support in the world - now go build your boat - that lake is calling out for you!!! ![]() |

| welcome I see you've found the rowing thread, read and enjoy, you will learn too. You can go broke buying books, but that's what got my skin on frame project going. a $24.00 book is pretty cheap if it gets you building. |
