It was actually originally made for the Austrian military. Before they got into guns Glock's premier product was shovels. They hit the market at just the right time as many police departments were getting ready to switch from revolvers to automatics and it was a case of the right product at the right time.

Since then, they've been very willing to make their product in pretty much whatever caliber the market wants.

Personally, I'm not a fan because they tend to scrape the skin off my thumb, but then I do have big hands.

I have mits and one issue I've had with semi autos is I get my thumb pinched, I bloody hate that.

The glock IMHO is one of the worst hand guns out there, its inaccurate to a degree which makes it dangerous to both the shooter and the bystander. Its failings are particularly a concern to women shooters as the heavy trigger pull and poor balance seem to effect them most. I never recommend it. I typically make it a point to speak out against it as I am now. S&W has a lot of grip options and generally dependable and adjustable hand guns, I'd recomend almost any S&W over a gack any day as it can be tuned to the individual pretty easily

Prejudices and leftists Googling and trying to teach about guns as if they know anything. The lot of you are absolutely ridiculous. Take over with your inanities. I'm done here.

oh enlighten us
are you about to mention that the gack is made with large grips and a whopping thumb guard, big deal, its still a crappy shooter. Seriously heavy pull and miles off balance. Sorry Mark but I do my share of shooting and if there's a target involved the gack will miss it more often than not. Ok my swat buddy is OK with it but even he says its not the best dog in the fight.

Vulkyn, two tough questions:

Were the prisoners let loose by pro Mubarak forces?

Then, What could the US do to help? Not the people, the government. Should they be sending generators and food, pressuring your government, setting up border security so Iran can't do the same thing to you that they did to Iraq in the vacuum of government, what?
I guess this should have gone on the other thread - I forgot there were two.
will reply in my other thread mark

Many thanks to every one's help .... respect to the different point of views.
A wise say in Egypt is if people had one taste diversified goods would not be produced.
Having different taste or feeling, feeling comfortable with certain guns and even different experience is understandable and normal.
A person who had to shoot some one is different than some one who never did.

My deduction so far is as follows:
.45 = stronger stopping power + more damage.
9mm = balanced between both
.22 =lighter stopping power, less damage cheaper and lighter recoil.

9mm seems to be the average choice as i dislike revolvers but the lack of ammo is gearing me towards .22

Shotguns are not a major option since most of the problems would be while traveling or when in groups making the collateral damage of a shotgun a problem.

Most gunshops have been looted in the crisis so gun prices are stupid atm and the ammo is scarce ... so ill have another look around to see what i can find.

please feel free to share any other point of views and many thanks for every one's contribution ....

I guess I"m just a disagreeable bastad today
a snub nose is worthless past 50'
you want a longer barrel for a faster mussel velocity out of a lighter load and you get the bonus of better aim and better balance
the idea is not to rattle off as many rounds as possible as fast as possible but to go center of mass carefully and deliberately. Which why glock is such a crappy gun, as well as a revolver snuby. cant hold either steady very easily. I kinda prefer a heavier gun with less kick and more power but to each his own an at least your armed.

oh
I do agree 100% about the short barrel slug chucker being a great home defense weapon, there is also the psychology of listening to the round being chambered

and what bntii said
best to stay out of trouble in the first place but
and this is the tricky part
if you carry a weapon and end up using it off your own property
that can easily be considered premeditated particularly if you end up shooting someone you know
A snubby isn't designed for shoot-outs past fifty feet. As I pointed out, it's an up close and personal weapon. I carry one in case I get mugged, and no one is going to mug me from 50 feet away.

However, it wouldn't be wise to bet against me being able to hit a man at that distance with a snubby...

All of which is irrelevant to this thread, because Vulkyn has stated he doesn't like revolvers. So I'll stop talking about them here.

Thus the 12ga. veri or very flare gun, In the U.S. you you can keep it in the boat or at home as backup, when sailing into any other countrys waters it is not listed as a weapon but all other hand guns are, and when checking in with customs must be declared. In most cases are confiscated and usually arrangements have to be made to ship it back home.Vulkyn's in your case the 22 will usually will not stop an aggresive intruder, wounding him or her will put them in survival mode like a wounded bear, then theres hell to pay, so be accurate my friend. As a point of interest, i recall my dad hunting rabbits with a 410 but in case of a moose opportunity, always carried 38 or a 44-40, ammo, having filed the rim to fit the 410 chamber. With a rabbit licence you can't hunt moose and for some reason in the early days 410 slugs were not available. No problem to knock down a moose with a 410 or 12 ga. slug. Shot my first moose with a 36in. Cooey goose gun with a slug. Use a 3006 or a 45/70 (BUSH GUN) for hunting and a 38special in the house, easier for the wife to handle, don't know if thats good or not.

I don't mean not be prepared to shoot them, when i say deter them i mean kill, wound or just scare them off

your primary goal is to keep them from doing what they intended

a stretched example would be a totally lethal muzzle loader or a simiauto 22

and if your not all that comfortable with your gun slinging then a gun that will do less collateral damage such as penetrate a wall and hit your kid on the other side may be a better choice

If you contemplate that you may be discharging the weapon inside your dwelling be aware that even a 9mm will penetrate most walls, and if a loved one is in the next room.......I would suggest a "shotshell" round, which I think is marketed by
Glaser and called the Safety Slug. Basically shotgun pellets in 9mm. Has good stopping power but not enough penetration to pierce walls. I believe this is the round used by air marshals. They feed in semiautos just fine.
The Sig brand of handgun, if you can get one in Egypt, is top of the line and functions flawlessly.
Hope you stay safe with all the turmoil over there

Waddie

I'll make another plug for the 44 round. It comes in every type, so you can shoot targets and not wreck your hand, then load up with something heavier and it would stop an elephant. The 22 is almost worthless, unless you hit someone in the head they aren't going down.

Sad tale but a good example of just how inefective a 22 is. A friend of mind was shot point blank directly in the head with one, she lingered for two weeks before she died. Mishe was a nice lady to, we all miss her. Lousy way to go lingering for weeks like that. It was an accident by the way.
