The Guard

Premiering tonight on the Cdn Global TV Network a dramatization of Canadian Coast Guard life on a new series called "The Guard"

http://www.canada.com/globaltv/globalshows/theguard/index.html

It's a work of fiction that's aimed at a younger demographic than most of us ole' farts but non the less entertaining. We (CCG) donated the use of one of our 47 MLB cutters and helo. The base they work from was a set constructed by the producers.

Sounds interesting, doubt we'll get to see it here though.

While on the subject, the show 'Dirty Jobs' on the Discovery channel is supposed to be aboard a USCG Buoy Tender on January 29th. The Cutter is CGC ASPEN (WLB-208)

I hope they show the guys running to thier soogie stations. And then later with very dramatic music I hope they show the guys heroicly cleaning the head and chipping and painting.

I hear, but havent' seen yet, that Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs on TLC or Discovery channels) does some of the dirty work ona USCG Station scraping buoys etc. That's a job I did back in the early '80's and it was nasty then and even nastier now with all the zebra mussels! I think the worst job I did on a CG ship was scraping the inside of water tanks! *sigh*
