Hi Pericles,
Have a bit of faith in yourself. What you are describing there is exactly what we have been facing and put up with for more than a decade, and worse. Insurance co's subdevisions closing down with peoples pension funds disappearing to name one. No services. I'm too scared to get ill or even considering to die. It has gone so far now they now aparently can confiscate your property (does zim sounds familiar), new laws. On and on it goes. They want to lift poverty by forcing those who has something to employ the rest. We already have businesses filled with people doing nothing, know nothing but demanding pay at month end. I foresee things here are going to become very very expensive in the near future. You mentioned socialism. Someone has to get something out the door or else everyone is going down.

I do believe that if you believe in yourself and you have faith in what you want to accomplish then there will be no barriers, no walls or limitations, but it may not be in the form of a lotto ticket or a large amount of money. My own life is speaking example of that. I never had much money, considering our currency good grief 10 times weaker than yours, yet one succeed and move ahead by all kinds of oversights on a daily basis.

I've heard of people ageing to 120, that being the case you are about half way unless you have premature plans. Q is, are you going to lie down the rest of the way, or are you going out kicking and screaming. Just think of all the knowledge you gained over the years and can now put to good use in your favour. If you were 18 again, do you know how dumb and inexperienced (called stupid around here) you would be again ? Probably just have one thing on your mind again and that won't get the boat done

So if I can drop a little pebble in your pond, don't give up on the boat. One step at a time, one brick at a time gets the house built, just don't stop putting the next brick up. If it gets delayed today a bit, so what, tomorrow the sun comes up and you have a wonderfull new opportunity to nail a new piece of wood in place. If you give up now, what kind of message does it give the rest of us eh ? I think God sees when someone gave up and I'm sure he thinks, ok, that one gave up, time to get rid of him...

Build the boat. It will happen. It won't be easy, but you can do it

Fanie,

Thanks for the kind thoughts, but as it's likely that America will have a president who has declared CO2 is a pollutant, then even breathing will eventually be taxed. I am seriously considering going to live in Serbia. I admit learning Serbo-Croat will be a bit of a challenge, but as Serbia is unlikely to join the EU now, I reckon it'll be a nicer place than any other country within the EU. I can even bear arms apparently. BTW, Serbia is landlocked, so I'll not be tempted to build a boat. Well perhaps something for this.

Pericles,

I'm sorry for your financial situation. Yours is a tragedy that is being repeated all over this country, too.

I support mccain and palin. I don't agree with everything they propose, but I think they're mostly right. I think obama is mostly wrong and will do world wide damage, but will be hailed as a gread leader who "restored america's standing in the world." Bush has dramatically increased aid to africa, what kind of credit does he get for that? Ethonol mandates and subsities has reduces the worlds food supply and really hurts the world's poor, a program that obama supports.

The danger is that socialism is a downward spiral: it creates a feadback loop of discouraging productivity, which reduces wealth, which gets people angry and demanding the government "fix" it for them.

We as americans have gone down that path before. I hope we don't travel too far this time around.

Soothsaying

srimes,

Thank you for your kind words. We share the same realistic world view it seems. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/c...0s-replay.html

We are not going to get mad about this, we are going to get even and if there is any justice, this will probably be the fate of Gordon Brown for his betrayal of the British people. His personal security will fail, briefly.

Also messing mine financial situation somewhat.....well I could've listened to my own words "there ain't no free lunch! " nagnagnag....

About socialism; Norway have "constitutional monarchy" (Ignore spelling mistakes...). For decades we have had elected people with mostly a sosialistic view. We had a good system. Then the Oil industry came along... They tried to use big company approach, but they ended up with a codriver "Statoil", owned by the Norwegian government, this improved the system for all Norwegians even further. So no we have a situation where we're almost satisfiyed, however; any system can be improved, the minute we state; "our system is the best one - period" (Admit it, some Americans are satisfied/ contempt (right word?) with just admiring their own navel... Worried about security, worried about weapons in the hand of criminals (and don't see that friendly fire also kills (like the gun in the hand of a 6 year old ("found it in a locker..")). Americans, solo, or in smaller groups (preferably unarmed or armed with a cooler and some 6 packs) are simply wonderful, and tend to have a good sense of homour and self irony.

So, if we are satisfied with our system; then we're not moving forward, not improving; in short; Screwed...

This fellow uses a big brush, you can like him or not. I'm not shure if i like that simplyfied attitude, but he probably points his finger to something there. The film sequence from the "prison camp" were taken in the summer.... not the winter time..In the winter time it would even make some sense to a right wing candidate...

Just for the record; I'm not satisfied, but better off, personally than the average American, I think... And some of that difference comes from the sosialistic way of thinking "us" insted of "me" - in a good sense.....

Enjoy (and compare to your American system..):

Haha...ya' Kool-Aid drinkin' chicken littles - looks like the ice-age cometh. I think my new investment strategy will be to do the opposite of whatever Al Gore suggests. Now excuse me while you read this article, I need to go find a sweater because it's damned cold here in Florida:

Knut,

Statoil is sensible. Russia has taken back control of its gas and oil reserves, Putin controls Gazprom. State ownership of banks in China, Russia and the Gulf States means Basel II Agreement does not apply to them.

Basel II is the cause of this. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/c...0s-replay.html

As for black and white issues? Your choice as always.

Nuff said!

You can't get believe-able answers even from scientists on this matter. Al Gore is a financial partner in so many "green energy" firms, you don't know if he's spreading hype and fear just to line his pockets. He's also a liberal with socialist ideas. Government regulating everything is also a motivational tool for him to spread hype and fear. Scientists could be claiming Global Warming because Al Gore promised them federal grants for their other research projects.

On the other hand, how can we be sure it's all just a bunch of propaganda to line Al Gore's pockets or to promote big government? We don't know because we can't trust the scientists telling us.

Personally I think it's all just a bunch of politics. The liberal politicians who most loudly cry Global Warming hate capitalism and free markets. If Global Warming was happening and we were causing it with our carbon emissions, the "solution" would be more government controls on what we do, mostly on big business and industry. So if your goal was bigger government, more regulation on business, more taxes, less freedom in general, than global warming would be the best thing that ever happened to you because it's your excuse to expand government regulation and add more economic hardships on businesses through carbon taxes and other regulations.

Get the message, or else!

From Raftman. "You can't get believe-able answers even from scientists on this matter."

Yes you can, if you are well educated. That means understanding the science. Most of the graduates from schools over the last 30 years have taken the easy options and are scientifically and mathematically illiterate. That's why they are to easy to fool. Hell's teeth, they don't even know how to budget their own lives so they have funds at the end of the week. If simple arithmetic is beyond them, how can they work it out that when the sea levels were rising by about by 3.2 mm per year as they were back in 2003, it would have taken 10 years to rise by 32 mm (just a little over one inch) and 100 years to rise by 320 mm or slightly under 13 inches, or 1,875 years to rise by the 6 metres schakel claimed in #624. Sea levels are now dropping of course, as global temperatures have fallen back to 1979 values as the oceans are no longer expanding due to their warmth.

That's the reason all these cretinous green enviroMENTALISTs are running around like headless chickens. They can't do simple sums, yet they have the vote. Who cares what they think? I don't, because they can't even add up a column of figures and get the right answer without a calculator. They cannot spell worth a damn, they mostly don't even know what a spell checker is and they have the unmitigated gall to think their opinions are worth the same as mine. I don't ***king think so!

Send them back to remedial school, to learn to read, write and do arithmetic and guess what? They'll still never be good enough, because stupidity is inherited and for too long, these ****** have been breeding more that the intelligent, because socialism has been paying them to do so. That is why Gore, Hansen, Mann and all the other political conmen have convinced the **** for brains halfwits of this world that CO2 caused the global temperature to rise from 1979 to 1998. Absolute nonsense, it's the sun. stupid.

http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/im...ckey_stick.pdf

Because these dunces can't work it out for themselves, they are really nothing but functionally illiterate organ donors. They actually expect, to have for nothing, parallel equality and the same rights and successes, for which I worked hard and saved 40 years and that which I have seen wiped out in the last weeks? Never, never, never! It isn't going to happen.

I may have lost my money, but I still have my intellect. Now I am going back to work to put my considerable talents to another cause. I am going to work to see green totalitarian environmentalism and socialism, totally ***king destroyed. Whoever it is who supports those false doctrines will have me as their implacable enemy, until they see sense and recant. I give them fair warning. Do not get in my way or cannon fodder you'll be, as sure as eggs are eggs.

And now to lighter issues. It's possible that tomorrow there will be light showers across the south coast of Wales, clearing away in the afternoon for a little sunshine to peep through.

Yes, I think it's a shame that people who can't even spell the words they're trying to say think their opinions matter more than mine.

Believe it or not, Howard Stern, whom I hardly ever listen to, and don't care for that much, pulled off an absolutely brilliant piece of journalism this week! He upstaged everyone on talk radio with the man-on-the-street interviews he did on his show. He and an assistant interviewed at random black people on the streets of NYC, where his show originates. He had the assistant ask questions about the election and whom they were voting for. Naturally, 98% of the blacks were for Obama. Then, in follow-up questioning, they switched Obama's platform with McCain's; had Obama proposing what John McCain and Sarah Palin are advocating. When asked if they approved of Obama's "policies," the ALL said they did. Yep. Sure do. And when asked if Sarah Palin was a problem as Obama's "running mate," they all said they had no issue with it at all; that she'd do fine. Stern said the results are living proof that virtually ALL Obama's black supporters are voting for him simply because he is black!! They don't know, or care, what his policies are -- only that he has black skin. Very revealing, huh?? Not to mention very, very DANGEROUS!!
