Longliner there is seashells in your back yard because you trusted that smart talking real estate agent when he sold you that beachside block which is actually on the ocean side of the beach.

There is an interesting picture of The Great White American Fleet in photo gallery. It was a tough job in those days and a little grubby for some.It will take some doing to get better than steam and new-clear-power for efficiency.

Tom I was under the impression from figures I read yonks ago that steam was highly inefficient, although what I read was in relation to locomotives.

Steam is only 7% efficient. That is it only provides 7% energy in motion in relation to the amount of energy used to produce the motion.

Steam is inefficient as a conversion process, but what other engine uses only heat and water? The idea is that heat can be gotten from many sources, like solar focusing, for example. Solar electricity is only about 20% efficient at best, but you need wires. An array of inexpensive reflectors could run a stationary engine. The waste heat could be used to heat a home.

www.nei.org/ is an interesting site.We will have to accept some risks if we want energy to stay warm and eat well. There is always going to be some impact whatever we do.

You know I read some where that at the turn of the century there was a lot of methane in the air due to animals. Apparantly New york and London had many horses, plus the plains of America with there herds of wild buffalo.Etc Etc.

So what was it like a million years ago with huge farting vegitable eating dinasours. Maybe thats why they died off, farted themselfs to death?

Its a theory? I dont see any one else coming up with any good ideas.

With technology the problem lies with the ability of staff and management and shareholders of industries to accept a responsible role in carrying out their work safely. It is not technology at fault but human incompetance.I have seen plant working in multi- million $ factories and some parts of that plant never worked they way it was designed (basic heat exchanges). The fitters and turners did not know how it should work.I have seen company managers "instruct" electricians to reverse the rotation of electric motors on atomizers, designed to rotate in a specific direction. The rotation had been right for 12 years. It was lucky that it was not a nuclear plant or airport. It is difficult to stay employed and be accountable.

Indians used the term "Yangeese" to describe early settlers in the new world, the north American continent. Likely Iroquois, Huron, and Mohawk and other tribes tribes all used the term. I am not sure what the term means in direct translation.
