On a lighter note, this http://financialsense.com/editorials...2009/0529.html indicates differently to what is in the letter when ALL the factors are considered, that is, that the FED and its "minion banks" are endeavouring to manipulate the value of the US$ up, - and - keep gold down... and the knowing market is aware of this and sitting on the sidelines, patiently waiting for the trigger to exit fully into hard (not paper prescriptions) gold... COMEX is very heavily shorted into gold - keep an eye on the next settlement date in June and watch all the shinanigans where the sellers try to get out of settling by seeking to roll-over.... INSIST on settlement of ACTUAL, TANGIBLE, GOLD....

An audio lecture with slides - corruption is still rampant in USA fiscal markets http://www.businessjive.com/ and transcript in a similar vein from a Bloomberg interview http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aEOpTqmLZB7A - - - Thrilling stuff

I think Z is ok - learning to be an arsehole (maybe he should look at some of seans posts for that song - - or even pay sean for some tuition)...

Some points to ponder from here http://financialsense.com/Market/wrapup.htm

"...Guys, we are in the midst of Kondratieff Winter, not the beginning of a new bull market. These counter-trend moves are more like “Indian Summer” and the deep freeze of winter will return. In David Knox Barker’s book The K- Wave, is a brief list of the events that have historically marked the Winter season:
* “Global Stock Markets Enter Extended Bear Markets”
This should be obvious to all.
* “Trends During Winter: Stocks Down, Bonds Up, Commodities Down”
These longer-term trends remain intact and the recent moves to the contrary are counter-trend.
* “Interest Rates Spike In Early Winter Then Decline Throughout”
In June 2004 the Discount rate was at 2.00%. By June 2006 it was at 6.25% and since August 2007 the Fed has been forced to cut the Discount rate back to .50%. So, this too, fits.
* “Economic Growth Slow or Negative During Much of Winter”
I doubt that many will argue that growth is now slow and in many cases negative.
* “Commercial and Residential Real Estate Prices Fall”
This obviously began back in 2006 and there is still much more to come.
* “Bankruptcies Accelerate and High Debt Eliminated by Bankruptcy”
This has obviously begun and is no doubt related to the housing and credit bubbles.
* “Social Upheaval and Society Becomes Negative”
We are only just beginning to see this.
* “Banking System Shaken and New One Introduced”
The banking system is now only beginning to be shaken. There should be much more to come.
* “Free Market System Blamed and Socialist Solutions Offered”
This has not yet happened, but just wait.
* “National Fascist Political Tendencies”
Just wait, there is much more to come.
* “Debt Level Very Low After Defaults and Bankruptcy”
This has not happened.
* “Trade Conflict Worsen”
This basically has not happened.
* “View of the Future at a Low Ebb”
This has not happened as everyone seems to be looking for the bottom.
* “New Work Ethics Develop Since Jobs are Scarce”
If I can assure you of one thing it is that this has not happened.
* “Greed is Purged from the System”
I can absolutely assure you that this has not happened yet.
* “Real Estate Prices Find Bottom”
This has not happened.
“There is a Clean Economic Slate to Build On”
Not happened yet.
* “Investors are Very Conservative and Risk Averse”
Again, this has absolutely not occurred.
* “Interest Rates and Prices Bottom”
Not happened.
* “A New Economy Begins to Emerge”
Has not happened
* “Stock Markets Reach Bottom and Begin New Bull Markets”
Again, we aren’t there yet.

Tim W. Wood..."

He sends out a e-news letter that I subscribe to. Of interest to just define some of the issues in play though I take all such musings as informed guesses.

it is disrespectful to others trying to enjoy a thread or a polite day spent on the forum when they have to see ranting like that
if you are unable to contain yourself I think you will find our moderator able to do it for you. Although he is a surprisingly tolerant fellow this type of stalking is one thing that does seem to get his attention.

You know you have to spell it out for the short term hero day trader types they can't see beyond price and have no comprehension of value... so here goes...

Buy peanuts you can't eat gold ----> Agri products, food and related business's are going to do very well after this monetary crisis gets a little further down the track... energy is the other area which will make a sound investment. As an investor you should never be concerned with the absolute price level of any of these assets, swapping between them as one becomes over valued in relation to the other is the better tactic. Recently 1400 to 1500 AUD gold bought a lot of cheap energy for me... now some of those investments have as much as doubled while AUD gold is now 1200. The gold did its job as money and preserved value until attractive opportunities became available. Gold is money, treat it a such, a parking spot when things get shaky, never empty your account but remember that the world never lacks opportunity to move forward. We must always consider the relative VALUE available in the market place.

Buy peanuts, you can't eat gold!

You know when a $2 hooker tells the police they have a stalker they tend to lack some credibly in the eyes of the law... don't trip over the ego on the way out you little name dropper you! BTW... you got personal first, may I suggest that drink posting is a bad thing!

Mas, sign on for John Mauldin's 'Thoughts from the Frontline' and 'Outside the Box' emails. He comes up with some excellent writers on occasion. Often I find his stuff a little misguided in that its loaded with Keynesian tilted assumptions but he runs a fund of funds and as such gives an excellent view into the mindset of at least part of the hedge fund industry. Those guys push so much money that they are oft self fulfilling prophecies... so how they think counts... even if it turns out to be wrong headed. Its never a bad thing to know how the 800 pound gorilla is thinking, especially if you are sitting opposite him!

10 trillion cents worth (hey its the times as they are! don't blame me!)

I thank you Z, sort of OK where I am, sitting on a nice nest-egg, Just that the meddling septics (Bernanke & cronies) are not letting the market have its say.... and it is amusing to bait the ignorant as to the culpability of the "money controllers" and FinancialSense has a broad spectrum of inside USA views via its contributors. - Keynesian views are out of context when it comes to the current fiscal environment, and projections are crippled by blatant, illegal and immoral manipulation....

You stir up Boston at your own peril - he is good value and could teach you a thing or two... - Are you in Melbourne? - I know an 800kg Gorilla down there who plays with oil and likes his vegetables, but peanuts are not in favour with me - well one 'local' ex-grower....

Whatever you feel is appropriate and fitting...

An accidental hit to the beginning of this thread started by self because I missed wanking and stirring usanians on economics, and Dear Manie pleaded for something anal but possibly useful for those intending to become live aboard abroad cruising yachties...

- Well Manie, few feel inclined to release info on their success at self financing the cruising lifestyle, as there is only so much room for floating carpet-baggers

To avoid marinas and deep water harbours one needs a relatively small cat and a capacity to sneak safely into shallow waters, get away from areas where roads offer an alternate means of access,

Deliver some entertainment by showing some socially acceptable movies (childrens cartoon action stuff like "vegetails", "Thunderbirds are go", "Shreck", "Madagasca" and so on) Be careful of cultural sensitivities as although the "west" is morally and socially corrupt, one should not spread perverse "freedoms" of expression....

Carry digital cameras and print photographs of the people and give them copies - sealed by a laminator... makes for appreciated gifts.

Have a good set of tools and be prepared to repair or get running as much as you can - at no cost to the villager... - - - Have tool sharpeners for chisels, saws, knives, scissors etc...

Know how to make activated charcoal, and teach the locals how to do that and what it is useful for...

Can you weld... Make and use a forge for ironwork etc.... Glass blowing as a means of recycling glass... make mud bricks, make concrete blocks & moulds for same... make simple and useful things like largish cooking ovens (bread, large pieces of meat (quarter of a bullock?) - learn from the alternative/back-to-nature/hippy-living self-help books...

We all need to learn to live this lifestyle as the crashing global economies will force it on us sooner than many realise - possibly less than the fingers of a one armed man in years... How about posting links to such resources with a brief outline on the contents such as:-
"...Growing vegetables on a small tropical island - what grows where and how see www. ....... etc..."
"...These are edible and some need special treatment first see www. ........"
