| Aquaponics Here is a bit of info. had to chop it up or it wouldn't fit. For the whole thing; http://www.autopot.com.au/default.as...9-621d98874672 __________ What is Aquaponics? Aquaponics is a hybrid between Aquaculture and Hydroponics. That is you get to culture both the fish (or other aquatic organism) and plants (crops such as lettuce) in a synergistic relationship whereby resources such as water and nutrients input (can also be in the form of feed) are being shared. This a classic case of 1+1 = > 2. Conventional Aquaponics may appear simple. But, in reality, it is a lot more difficult to manage than what we have been led to believe. However, Autopot version of Aquaponics is a lot easier. It is as simple as letting the water first flow into the fish tank and then pump the fish water to feed the plants via the Autopot systems. Cick this link for related article on Autopot Aquaponics vs Conventional Aquaponics ![]() Thursday, 31 July 2008 Tue Cabbage on the left was tossed into the 1,000-litre fish tank containing about 100 Jade Perch (average wt. 650gms). Picture on the right shows the result a day later. . Monday, 10 December 2007 The first batch of Jade Perch on average is weighing around 200gms each. With 150 of them in each of the 1,000 L tank, we are really pushing the aquaculture units to the limit. We need to do something about it soon. Saturday, 17 November 2007 With the onset of warmer weather(late Spring), we have cucumbers grown in hanging baskets along both sides of the wire mesh. Soon we can expect to see cucumbers hanging from the wire mesh. By using non-toxic sprays, we are able to control pests & diseases without hurting the fish.. At the moment, our Autopot display (at Gardensmart) is very extensive (over 500 meters apart) - feeding up to 1,500 plants from a 12V DC 8 amp battery operated pumping and dosing unit (Smart-pump set). The plants are consuming on average 1,500 litres of water a day (no wastage) at this time (summer) of the year. Since the installation of the Autopot Aquaponics system about two months ago, we have been making use of the water for our fish first before feeding it to the plants. If we allow a 10% daily water change in the aquaculture tanks, we should be able to culture up to 15,000 litres of fish tanks which can be translated to mean a potential stocking rate of 1,500 heads of fish such as Jade Perch. Sweet potato plants in Autopot window box overhangs the fish tank. An excellent food for the Jade Perch. Note the sweet potato plants are heavily infested (intentional) by caterpillars - most of which ended up in the water and consumed by the fish. Underwater lighting for attracting insects into the water at night. Automatic Feeder used. Airlift pump and simple bag filter. Transfer pump - automatically feeds fish water to the Autopot Systems. Updated 20th July 2007 Wastes from our hydroponic crop and our Auquaponics set-up are food for the worms. Collection of worm juice is easy and convenient. Juice drain the tap from the bottom tray of the worm farm. You can get on average about 1 litre of worm juice per month from one unit. Liquid waste from the worms is food for our vegetables. With the Autopot Systems, you can feed the worm juice directly to the root zone of the crop - as shown. Friday, 5 October 2007 - We have been operating the Autopot Aquaponics for 6 months now and have not made any water quality checks for pH or ammonia level. There is no necessity to do so in our case because our water exchange (equivalent to the uptake of water by hundreds of our plants) in the fish tanks is occuring continuously at the rate of 10 to 20% a day - thereby conforming to the Autopot KISS principle. . ![]() Sleepy Cod - Oct. 2007 Jade Perch - Oct 2007

| Something along those lines will be used at our new home (land base), if lovely lady allows a non-traditional home food growing system - I want to also include some poultry - - She who must be obeyed is really keen on fruit trees and stuff like that not smart recycling as presented in your post... TTT thanks very much... I will use that info as a persuasive tool...

the hard part is to find good olive oil here. I was accustumate of the heavy dark green first cold pressured from my own olive trees back in Spain. But I do with what I find here. I also mix with goat chese, chilis and some fresh parsley. The small chili chopped is delicius in all sauce. Mixing the olive oil fast with a lot of chopped very fine garlic will make the best "aioli" mayo constitancy you can have. Add the small chili and some parsley. Eat it with good bread and a lot of anchovas. |

I can't beleive these price! Here we pay the double as soon its imported. The cheesbruger is cheap , but beside that let say:Olive oil 1 liters $14 2Lbs of T-boon $28 2Lbs of fresh bread: can't find it. 2Lbs ordinary steak $14 2Lbs plain Gouda $15 (imported one) the tomatoes are $2.99 a pound (ap. Half kilog) Potatoes made in maine are cheap Haddock made in Maine $14 per pound, froozen from Norway $7 a pound. (ridiculous) Eating is expensive here in the part of Maine where I am. The garlic come from mostly California, and the goat cheese from here around the corner from my house. Also they do very good sauercrout which I love too. We have a German merchant who import all from Germany and also make himself very good sausage and ham from his own farm animals. I can talk for ever about eating, I love to cook. I spend every night an hour or two cooking, recepises invented of taken from a book. Cheers Daniel |

| Original "Schwarzwälder Schinken", that is finest quality smoked ham (Jambon), is 1,85€ per 200gram It is worldwide known that we have the lowest prices for food on the entire planet. (well some fruit and vegetables are cheaper elsewhere, though not much). In Turkey with a income of about 20% of the average German income, the prices are between 3 times and (for cheese) 20 times higher! When it comes to quality the prices explode, one Kg of imported Italian Jambon / Ham is 165€to 245€ !!! A glass of Marmelade / jam is 3€ in Turkey, the quality crap. A good one in Germany is 65 cent. Yeah and I like to cook as well. |

| No Mark. We just have a very critical way of purchasing our stuff. And we are used to choose the cheaper or better goods, even if the difference is just pennies. Wal Mart made three attempts to step into the German market. He was beaten out by the customers three times. We do´nt buy crap. The average production cost of one liter milk in the EU is about 50 € cent. We pay 55c in the supermarket! The same quality milk costs about 85 to 95c in all the other EU countries. |

| actually what Ive found is that by shopping at the ethnic stores I get way better deals. Chili oil at the regular market is $7 for a really small bottle. At the Asian market its $1.49. Rice is easily twice as expensive and meat almost twice the cost at the regular market, depends on what kind of meat.
