| I do not recall such an event, and if so, the Labour party would never let them forget, as both "left" & "right" claimed the best treasurer in Paul Keating when Bob Hawke was PM and little Johnny Howard, the manager, before he became PM... The other parties in Australian Federal politics include "the coalition" of the Liberal (urban based lawyers) and the Country Party (rural based Lawyers), Greens (tree huggers), Democrats (keep the bastards honest), and, (the joke) the fish & chip shop ladys' One Nation party... Oh and a couple of independents... Gold has held US$1090 up to half an hour before NY opens (AU$1202)... Now, the NY market is open and gold is on the rise and carry trade is lifting the AU$ quicker than gold so the price of gold is holding at AU$1200 and in US$1093 at 08:38 NY time and my graph is probably delayed.... Will the ride continue ![]() ![]() ![]()

| The Fix(at least partially) There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it! _____ Dear Mr. President, Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan": There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations: 1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.. 2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed. 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed. It can't get any easier than that!! P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes... Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto! If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know. If not, please disregard. |

| At least the rag NYT still has an audience...and it's not in the U.S.! This frickin' irrelevant ****-hole America sure seems to dominate the minds of some. A lot of good, conservative stuff coming out of Australia, BTW... ![]() ![]() Not everyone there is OBSESSED with a country on the other side of the world, methinks. Well, Mas, pay attention to the political scene, if you will, as I have tried to teach you before - politics and economics are inextricably entwined. Re: the off-year elections in Virginia and NY. The people are fighting back, there will be a complete transition next fall at the mid-terms, and if the F'ing Republicans spend and cheat like they did last time, they will be hung. Watch in awe as the U.S. (and hence, world) economy recovers if the Dems getting stung yesterday portends anything. P.S. - Sorry 'bout your gold (have you thot of gilding some ****? It works to fool "em in South America!) but it's a good lesson for you obsessing over what happens here instead of giving a voice locally where you might have an effect. And "Kevin" is not on a first-name basis with you. And he probably does not read this thread (Maybe Sean Herron's but not yours...yet) |

| masrapido, As it had to be, Little Johnny Howard, is of the same material as the one who posted #1855 above, another monkey, worshipping a cretin like the shrub and the abuse of the gun, to go where you are not invited, and only a dick-head would venture to go... - Why we, (Australia), is still involved in the middle east fiasco is beyond sane comprehension... There is no benefit or social gain for USA, or anyone else to justify external intervention, but, clandestine operators like the CIA may want to regain control of the opium market for 2 reasons - 1) - To profiteer from its (USA's), addicted veterans and citizens - & - 2) - To use the stuff to incite trouble in Western (Muslim) regions of China and adjacent Russian regions... under the cooperative spirit of a profiteering association with the money managers of NY.... Mark, refrain from posting that flag-waving-self-righteous-colonialist-excuse of militaristic-intervention-********-wanking (one should play with your own dick privately)... It is not considered appropriate to masturbate in public in ANY civilised or otherwise community except in USA, so kindly refrain from extending your deviant behaviour elsewhere... No obsession with the USA... Just incredulous at the stupidity of so much of the population who believe there is nothing wrong and prefer to believe some dud actor on FOX TV who has one claim to fame - he looks and sounds credible to all the sheeple out there... The sooner the USA economically collapses in its own pile of 'deceptacon' **** the better... Mark, the ABSOLUTE POWER resides with those who can create money and "adjust" prime interest rates (the core Merchant bankers, The FED and The Treasury - - I call them "the money managers"), until such time as they have created far too much money, then the whole system collapses, (Which is not far off happening)... The Politicians are of little consequence, being just those who the sheeple can blame when things go wrong... Generally, the politicians 'stay at the feeding trough' until they displease the money managers, - then the 'left' or the 'right' looses temporary favour, and the sheeple "extract their inconsequential revenge", and the business of the money managers continues unhindered... The politics of the parliament is not relevant... Politicians generally do as they are told or do NOT get re-elected.... They are pre-selected on their sheeple pleasing prowess and subservience to authority (the money managers).... That is the basics of life in power.... Australias' Pauline Parody had the sheeple part but was not obedient to the money and quickly became a "mockery" known as "Pauline Pantsdown" inspired by the displeased money.... That is how it works, a sweet life or a kick in the groin or more....

| Damned fools. "I call them", "I call them"? What do you call them? You call them nothing original as none of you are capable of original thought - You cut and paste, Numb(gilded)nuts reads the F'ington Post and NYT and regurgitates with his pen-man putting it to the keyboard in Ingles. The one comfortably living under US wing whilst spewing communist and anti-US propaganda should be sent to Club Gitmo. ...And you are still talking. WTF? |
