BOTH...climate change will bring environmental extremes. Earlier in winter we recieved more rain in a 24 hrs period than has ever been recorded. Last week it snowed...first snow in 54 years.

Do you think that has anything to do with the El Nino / La Nina cycle?

Europe is kept warmer than the States by the Gulf Stream. How is that flowing compared to normal and what is its temperature?

Dont know. I know those phenomenon influence the climate cycle. Last summer was so dry that the olive trees failed to produce fruit.

Only observations from a simple mind.. The actual science needs to be explained by scientists

Is that why my olive oil prices have gone crazy?

I think I am paying something like $10 per liter and that is a good quality, 100% Italian, Extra Virgin, cold pressed, but no brand. Just a store brand.

Dont know much about the olive oil industry. Much Italian oil is made from Spanish olives. I believe its just another in demand commodity like corn, wheat...and has increased in price

. Perhaps they have an industrial use for it

Because I'd have to say it's the people who cherry-pick news articles that seem to reinforce their prior biases -- even if they really don't, after being read carefully.

A few years ago, my local supermarket started carrying a 50/50 butter and olive oil mix. So when I'm cooking, I rarely use straight butter or straight olive oil any more.... but I suppose that's a subject more appropriate for the cooking thread.

All I know about cardiology is that I'm vainly hoping I'll outlast my heart, and vice versa.

Me too but with cardiac problems having killed off both parents perhaps I am grasping a bit...

Anyone hear of the DEEP snow falls in the Serbia?:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...vjQ_story.html

Yikes

And 20 feet in Alaska:

http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2012/J...-Feet-of-Snow/

Some commentary I heard attributed these heavy falls to rising temps in these areas; in colder times- too cold to have this heavy of snow falls.

Neither. Sail south in winter and sail north in summer.

That reminds me of that winter in Kentucky. I had to draw water from the well for my grandma and I set the bucket down on the porch to go ask her where she wanted it. I came back outside and the water froze so fast the bucket was still warm!
