Geek question - can't see thread titles - HELP!!!!

As a "semi-geek" (I can make Mac Users think I know something...) I realise that I need a full geek's help.
I used to have Norton I'Net Securityy 2002 (lovely piece of kit) and was informed that it is no longer supported, so I bought NIS 2004.
AARRGGHH!!!!!!
I can no longer see the thread titles on the forums here (major problem) and my FreeCell has stopped dead (not so major but still incredibly painful).
Does anyone out there know how to tweak NIS to allow the titles to appear? I'm sure it's just a simple switch somewhere, but none of the ones I've tried have affected it.

Thanks - I hope!

Well Steve, as a longtime mac user I can only say... I've never ever had a virus on any of my computers, unfortunately I will go over to the darkside since the good boat design programs don't exist on the mac, bummer...

The wife has the same sw on her PC I'll check the settings on it tomorrow.

That's a new one -- what browser and browser version are you using? What appears in place of the thread titles - I suppose nothing? If you can do a screen shot I would love to see what you are seeing - webmaster@boatdesign.net

Thanks

Thanks Steve. Got the screenshot but I don't have an explanation for you yet.

In the meantime you could probably give the free www.mozilla.org browser a try (mozilla is ~11 MB while the lighter firebird browser there is around 6 MB to download.)

Jeff,
The problem with AOHell is just that - it is AOHell and the browser is "built-in". It _thinks_ it is IE5.X, but it ain't...
I've tried with NetScape 6, but the same view. It has to be a NIS thing, I think.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and uninstalled NIS. THen I eradicated all mention of it from my machine and registry.
Then I re-installed the brute, and here I am - thread titles show up, etc. Wooohooooooooo.......
Now I just have to re-teach it all the sites that I don't want getting cookies.....
Well, thanks for all the attempts at help, and here's hoping this doesn't re-occur as I get it back up to speed.

Fantastic - I'm glad you solved it since you're one of our MVP's. Sorry I couldn't offer any quick fixes but it's probably just one of those one in a million problems where it's easier to reinstall the program than troubleshoot enough to solve it.

Edit after the fact (12-9-2003): It seems symantec is aware of this problem but has no solution either:
Quote:
Unable to read messages on some web-based online bulletin forums with Norton Privacy Control enabled

Situation:
You are viewing a web-based bulletin board which is powered by vBulletin from Jelsoft Enterprises. You can select an individual forum on the board, but when you get to the message view of the forum, you cannot view or select the individual messages and replies. You have Norton Privacy Control (NPC) Ad Blocking enabled.

Solution:
As a workaround, disable Ad Blocking in Norton Privacy Control to view these particular web-based bulletin boards. To do this, launch NPC and uncheck "Enable ad blocking" in the Ad Blocking tab. When you have finished viewing these bulletin boards, check "Enable ad blocking" to continue blocking ads on other pages.

Symantec is investigating this problem. The cause is unknown, and there is no solution at this time. This document will be updated when new information becomes available or a solution is found.

Yipster - I feel your pain.....
I just installed psp8.1, since they sent me the free update, but haven't tried a banknote yet. ;-)
The NIS thing was based on the fact that my subscription had lapsed, and they are not "supporting" the older versions anymore. Obviously the money they charge for subscriptions doesn't cover having to hire folks who can still decipher two-year-old code to write upgrades. Fsckers! (pardon my French..)
