Fiber glass paint jobs, colors, scheme etc..

Well not sure where to place this question so here goes!

What kind of colors, paints, stickers etc.. can i place on my boat that will last??
I would like to know the limitations so to speak. Is it possible to do colors and shapes like the ones done on cars ?

Can i pimp my boat ??

Heat and sunlight cause fading. You are amply supplied with both.

Red fades the worst. Blue fades the least.

Vinyl stickers shrink and curl at the edges as they weather and go bad sooner than paint.

What if i take a varnish, hardener and tenner combo on top of it ? Would that seal it and extend its life?

I would be the wrong one to ask. I doubt it, though.

Always good to see when we have nothing to provide but honesty.

And you are right Hoyt, it does not last.

One can put a PU paint job on it, that will fade later than others, but in Egypt the best stains fade out after, say three years.
On megayachts the paintjob can make for 25% of the overall cost !!!!
(and has to be redone every 5 - 7 years................................)

Indeed the weather in Egypt means you are able to use your boat almost 9-10 months (if you deploy in certain area's)

3 years is acceptable i recon and i did find a supplier who prints using 3M vinyl (and cuts to shape as well)

Would i be able to get the effect if i added vinyl at the gel coat stage, apply the mold with a color then remove the vinyl to get the effect ? At least that way its gel coat color.

Your printed vinyl falls off after one day in sea water (well, may be after one week), and it fades out faster as you can look at it. Any sort of vinyl (PVC) and the like are strictly non permitted on a sea boat under southern sun.

PU as mentioned....

PU? Not sure what that is ....

I have a friend who does similar sticker / shape / color installation on boats (been doing it for 8 years now) so ill give him a call tomorrow to see how he gets away with it.

So the frenzy in the above pic is PU ?
