Don't underestimate the power of a large group of stupid people. You voted for your current incompetent gov - live with it :D

Communica sells some nice kits. They may bring in some other ones, but I haven't heard from them in a while. Considering those kits for the cat as well.

1A each per panel, 3 panels in a kit, R1400.00

8hrs per day makes for about 24Ah per kit

Lots of stuff to steal over here if it gets too "hot", just so long as you leave the money on the counter - I would hate to visit someone locked up in "the can"....

Wind up radio, wind up torch, bit of string on a nut (or a lead line if your posh) long stick to fend off -who needs anything else (cept maybe a pearl cracker)

I will never rely on electric nav equipment alone. Still will have a magnetic compass, mechanical propeller log, lead line, sextant, and paper charts. Plus a hand held GPS on batteries.
All this electronic stuff makes life easy and it would be stupid not to use it, but I will always have some backup.

Just a thought but all these electronic doda's are collectively known as AID's to Navigation!
Just remember that, they are there to help not do the job for you!

Trouble is those as use all this ellectronickery tend to think it will do the job for them - either because they are lazy or stupid and can't!! Eithr way there's a good chance that one day it will all fail and ........CRASH!!!

I agree with you guys. Do your calculations and confirm it with the instruments. If you get some deviation, you can look see where the difference is and correct if you made a mistake. If you made a mistake you better take notice, as you say if the instruments aren't there to confirm and you get to where you can see the white clouds that's actually the artic snow... Wellllll better hope you got a jersey packed in then eh !

He-he... or if you end up in another country's harbour thinking good grief the place HAS changed overnight !!! How long was I gone again ?
