Thanks, Richard, for the ffd(friend flotation device) posting. Many dogs may benefit from the knowledge.

My "Sterling" did once survive due to that ffd only. He fell from the dock when there was ice on it. It was his first winter with ice, he was not used with it. He fell between ship and dock. With a boat hook in the handle I was able to pull him free from the danger zone, then we lifted him with three man, using the handle. 74 kilogram dog with a wet fur! No way to get him out without that "ffd". And of course no beach near.

-a few decades ago it was usually safe to skate on the Ridea canal in Ottawa by this time; I've seen snow plough trucks driving up and down on it.

even the opening of the Alaskan ice highway is being pushed back later in the year and closes earlier

    no worries Hoyt
I was just having fun with it

    ok
lets leave it for the climate thread
which by the way I have been gracing lately with my usual investigative style
funny how all the papers presented lately by the deniers failed the review process yet still are avidly quoted

    kinda makes you wonder

    oh well

    bark

Those ice roads put a lot of sled dogs out of work, or did they?

I know this is the wrong thread, but it reminded me of King.

A burglar crept into a dark house and as he crossed the room he heard a voice say, "JESUS IS WATCHING YOU!" He froze in his tracks and waited. He started walking again, and again the voice came "JESUS IS WATCHING YOU". Finally the burglar's eyes adjusted to the dark and with great relief he saw a parrot in a cage in the corner. "What's your name," he asked the parrot. "Bonzo" said the parrot. "Who gave you that stupid name" sneered the burglar. "The same guy who named the Rottweiller Jesus."
