From my experience both--didn't have to train him to change locations when tacking or when he was pushing his luck in a crowded cockpit in rough weather--Simply headed for the v birth and went to sleep. Sailing in the summer --ducks in the fall-- and hauling in his one stick of fire wood each trip to the shed in winter-- never could teach him to till or weed the garden in spring though
