a few times I puchased starters and altinators for my truck or cars, only to find out they were bad also ,,,nothing like working outside in the rain and cold only to find that by,, trying to save 8 bucks ,,your doing it again, the solution to this is to open up your wallet the first time.,,now name brand stuff ,,you expect quality from ,but they fail you ,,you can send a message to these manufactuers by not buying thier product and telling them why, it is a shame that something as important as a bilge pump can be made just for a sale. were not floating around in bathtubs here ,,its time to get quality back to boats ,,,complaine when you can,,,,,,,longliner

It sounds as though you are talking plural here??? How many pumps did you fit before you got a good one.
Had two pumps fail before I got wise and had one custom made. Which solved all the troubles.
The trouble with a lot of classic cars is that a lot of owners are ordinary people and have to work to a budget. The suppliers market products to the price most owners are willing to pay.
In many cases these cars might only get 2,000k's (tops) in use per year so the cheapy parts never appear to fail.
It gives a false perception when owners say a certain thing lasted "X" number of years when in fact they should be considering how much work that particular component did before failing.

Why dont you march this crap back to the shop? I do ,--even here in the East. Most countries have laws that say that an item is supposed to do what it is sold to do. A pump is meant to pump, a starters meant to start. It doesnt matter what the price is. Like longliner says complain, give it them back, ask for a GOOD one this time.

.

Well they will happily supply another pump, but it would be crap like the first one. The greater majority of suppliers (talking classic cars here)
all source their parts from overseas manafactureres, places like India etc etc.
Some stuff is okay, other stuff not. It's only by trial and error we find out what's ok to buy and what to avoid.
