I think that prices in Rumania are going to be lower and it is usually better if you can deal with the designer in person. It makes it easy to get an inspection during the build.

I'm a hand shake guy too and completely agree with local designers, which was my intent when I mentioned discussions with one.

gonzo. Wow, that`s a lot of HP. I will go with your advice, i will make a little research and make a SOR.

PAR, you are right, i don`t have any hydrodynamic knowledge, and i don`t want to do anything until i show my sketch to an expert and see what can be done and what needs modification. 5000 sounds good, and it may be cheaper here in Romania.

daiquiri. I definitely want to work with local people. There are a lot of designers with experience from small boats to oil tankers, i just wanted to know where those prices start. Thank you for the links.

Thank you guys for your replies.

I think that 1000HP can get the boat to those speeds if you keep the beam narrow and the weight down. If you want a roomier boat with some interior and several people on board, 1400HP may be necessary.

I definitely want a roomier boat. I like this one with all those sitting space http://new-motortrends.com/Speed-boat-2008.jpg (unfortunately i don`t know what tipe of boat is this). I have something similar in my head, but with a more modern style. Maybe 55 knots is a little too much for such a boat, what do you think?

The speed is feasible. At those speeds, the crew must stay in the aft areas. The acceleration forces in the forward areas will cause injury or death.

In that case, check out the gallery of this guy, he appears to have done something similar:
an2reir - http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/profile/an2reir.html
And he is also from Romania...
