You can use banana leaves too.

Cochina means something derogatory (female variant of cochino=pig). Don't ask me how I know. Utilize coquina instead, or conch.

as a kid I used to go snorkeling around the salt marsh just past the boat house and catch blue claw crabs for dinner. Maybe about once a week, for the family. Was fun unless the marsh was upside down and all murky.

These days I'm not so sure you could just grab any kinda shellfish close in off a populated coast without risking some serious illness.

Coquette isn't exactly a compliment in french. Dad always spelled it cochina and pronounced it cokina, and if its cocina (meaning kitchen in spanish) it would make more sense.
Words and how meanings and spellings evolve is interesting topic. Because this thread is about cooking, alphabet soup anyone?

To clarify just a bit more, in parisien french coquette is a flirt or precocious. Considerably stronger in cajun french. Usually exclaimed with anger as "Pa bon coqCUT!" meaning "No good C__T! (old scottish 'quent'"

forgive the spelling, can't spell for "Beans" (on topic)
I pronounce it as," Yak sha ve sushi chevy krushi"
Means "Don't worry! When it's dry you can brush it off."
In polish

I believe it includes cooking aboard whether here or abroad and on the beach. People blog this forum from all over.

Post 1 by Daiquiri is actually from Italy.

I like that. I like people. I consider my self a citizen of the world and at same time a patriotic american. No conflict.

I appreciate and respect your knowledge of languages. Ability to communicate is paramount. and the easiest way to make friends is to at least try to learn their language. Gets you adopted quick. And eat the foods they eat, even if strange, and you're in like Flynn.

Cooking aboard

I was rather inspired by the pics in this thread so I tried a little experiment.

I raided the pantry and the freezer (in case we didn't catch anything), enlisted a friend and his trailer-sailer and headed to Hobsons bay.

The mission... Can I cook something akin to what I'd cook at home in a confined space with very few resources.

I was armed with ingredients, a small frying pan and the most basic set of utensils and plates.

The results were far better than I hoped for. The most difficult task was plating up, as plate presentation went to hell. The day was rather a poor one with light rain and short chop making for a bumpy ride.

For the sake of the pic I had to use the 10 second rule quite a few times. I even lost a piece of bass over the transom while cooking on the rail mounted BBQ.

I present... panko crusted bass with a chilli lime mayo dressing fresh off the deck.
