The flats up in Tarpon Springs is (was) a great place to collect blue eyed bay scallops. If you have a jon boat and a mask and snorkel, you should go wading out there to gather some of the most delicious scallops you've ever had.

For some reason I can eat sea scallops but have a reaction to bay scallops. The authorities have just lifted within the last couple of years a total ban on Pasco scalloping and now allow a short scalloping season here.
The problem started with too much shark fishing, which exploded the stingray population, which depleted the scallop population.
When the sharks rebound, so too the scallops.
