CDK, I would guess the coated metal parts develop a blush due to the field caused by the zincs. Calcium may due this if there are temp swings or if the CO2 level changes day to night. Just guessing.

There certainly is a flow of electrons from the zincs to the props and stern tubes. This may change the surface of the anti-fouling paint and provide a better holding ground for the sea creatures. There is a lot of calcium present because this sea has limestone mountains on all sides and most of the deposits are calcium: they can be chemically removed using hydrochloric acid.
