Boat Registration, Who does this boat belong to?

I came across a sailboat(J28) mislocated and damaged from the huricane. The boat is located in the woods on the Ms. Gulf coast and its registered in La. Ive contacted the La. Wildlife and fisheries and they wont give me the info of who it belongs to, So my question is to everyone is there a website out there that will give that info or does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out the owners name.
Thanks
Mark

Think long & hard

before you do tjis guy a 'favor' and track him down to tell him you found his boat!

Likely as not it was insured.

Likely as not he might get a full loss insurance adjustement purely because the boats missing presumed sunk.

You could actually threaten that....by turning up with a badly damaged boat that the insurance co - want to pay peanuts to some half whit to try and patch up, so tyhe insurer gets out of his liability for next to nought.

If the boats not badly damaged - then fair enough - probably track the poor sod down, and tel him about it...but if it's wrecked - then maybe you'd be kinder to say nowt and forget you ever saw it.

Very hard one to know the "right thing" to do...

For example - if it isn't insured - and it's not badly damaged - then you might be the saviour of someones treasured vessel....and they will thank you forever...

I am sorry I don't know - who has a register of titles for vessels in your nation. Likely as not, some kind of marine and harbours authority, who issues the registrations - and takes details of the title, and collects an annua registration fee...

In my own country for example - our state authority who register vessels, is the DPI (Dept Planning & Infrastructure - marine safety branch)...

In your country - I don't know - but someone here is sure to know and chime in with the right answer.

When you do contact the owner - make sure - you tell him what condition it's really in - and ask whether he is insured and wants his own vessel back - in the condition it is now in or whether he would prefer it never found and to recieve his insurance payout, without hassels.

Good luck - your trying to do the right thing - which in todays day and age - is most commendable.

Of course, if he doesn't want the vessel back (or perhaps even if he does and your of such a mind) - then you CAN I belive lay salvage rights claim to the vessel - and sell it back to his insurer etc etc...

No doubt you could research this kind of aspect also, a quick call to a maritime attornney for example...might be well worth your dime.

Best of luck with it - tis a shame theres not more like yourself in this world!

Cheers!

Now if you'd come across it deralict at sea it's easy - it's yours! Do with it as you wish!

seeing as you found it ashore it probably is covered by some state legilature to say that it belongs to them, you found it, you touched it (of course you bloody did, if only to find out who where and what, it's the sensible and right thing to do) but be careful in the minds of beauracrats this could mean your responsibly for it if it's a wreck! Can you afford to shift it, would you want to? After all even if you contact the owner as trouty says above does he want it? Whilst you are trying to do the right thing, and power to your elbow for that [I think your bloody marvellous for even trying] be careful you don't open a big tin of worms with this!

Sorry to sound so negative but....... Actually the guy who owns her will probably be over the moon, but it's a sh** world out there

Doesn't matter if he wants to commit insurance fraud or not. The right thing to do is to try to contact him.
